playing around with the Formal Elements

The blog post homework for the Formal Elements of a Game section:

Take a game, pick a formal element in that game, and change it up (ex: Street Fighter with 4 players in free-for-all or teams of 2, or Assassin's Creed with NO combat procedures whatsoever, or DotA without the ancient as the primary objective, or a mario game without a jump button). How do you think the gameplay will change from the original version? What other elements would you change/remove/add to accommodate this initial change? (If there are examples of actual game titles using these changes, or games that are more often played with certain changes/suggest changes right in the instruction manual, tell us about them as well)

  1. My pick would be "Silver Surfer" on the NES, a game which is beyond impossible to finish. I would change some elements to actually make it playable and add further interest. It had the potential to be a great old school title but just got infamous because of its legendary difficulty and other bad game aspects.

    CONFLICT - I would change the "wall, ceiling or any object that you touch that is not even an enemy projectile makes you dead" rule and not make it a hazard, its the reason this game was virtually unplayable to begin with and one of those aspects that made it so bad. Its just ridiculous. The stage design should not be a hazard in the sense that the entire game is made completely out of it. Imagine your character dying of just touching the wall, it makes Silver Surfer a total wimp. Imagine if Super Mario Bros. made the rule that if you touched the ground it automatically kills you.

    Note: Spikes are an exception to that rule because its of a different nature.

    I would also add these changes:
    PLAYERS - Instead of a 1 player game, have the option of making it up to 2 players. A classic NES game should deserve to have the luxury of having 2 players especially because the shoot 'em up genre is really great with multiplayer.
    ALSO, I would have the option of a player vs player, it would be nice to play against another player instead of just working together, just like those in the old shoot em up Atari games that offer versus mode. Adds more depth to the overall game experience.
    PROCEDURES - Make the A Button do a special attack like a huge bomb or just something more powerful than the normal bullets. Lessens the monotony of just having one attack because that's just boring and gets stale after a while and also helps when there’s a little too much going on in the game.
    RULES - Have a health bar with at least 4 or 5 points. Make Silver Surfer take more than just one hit.
    - When you die, start from that point forward (in comparison to Contra)
    RESOURCES - Add powerups that strengthen special attacks.
    - Offer variety of other special attacks.

    The changes will make the game actually playable compared to the original version. A lot of times, 10 seconds into the game you die because the stage decor killed you. Its just too unreasonable.

    Examples of games that are more often played with changes:
    Contra – 30 life code
    Ikari Warriors – Resurrection code
    Mortal Kombat (Sega Genesis Port) – Blood on code

  3. Monopoly. Monopoly Destroys peace. Monopoly Destroys Trust. MONOPOLY DESTROYS FAMILIES!

    There's this particular rule I want to remove in monopoly since this rule is crap and is subject to causing distrust to family members!

    so I want to change a rule!

    one of the rules say that one of the players CAN BE THE BANKER!
    most of the time when one of the players become the banker they cheat the living hell
    out of everyone, one may slip a hundred bill under the rug and bring it out later when they need it, they may hide money under their sleeve, all those kinds of snarkiness that the banker does when they're one of the players!

    I know that this problem can be rectified by assigning the responsibility of handling money to a non-player but that's depressing for the person, all they'll do is just watch people play, or if not, watch players murder each other because this guy bought that guy's property and storm of mass murdering happens!

    so I would like to impose a rule for Monopoly in regards to who'll be handling the money!

    It should be no one!

    here's what I need everyone to do:

    lay the stacks of money on the middle of the board and just let players take the amount money they want to loan so that OTHER PEOPLE CAN SEE or if the players wants to change his bill into smaller ones it'll be easier to notice if they took an extra ten dollar bill.

    I'm aware that this rule can be applied to this game but it should be MANDATORY!

    if Monopoly have done this earlier, they could have avoided people having fist fights on Christian family dinner christmas evenings. oh what fun will it'd be to ride on a non-uber-emotional christmas game, hay!

  4. I would choose Megaman, and I would like to take out the shooting thing and change it with close combat. Considering in Megaman all you can actually do is Jump and Shoot, so... now it would be Jump and kick/whack/hack/slash which would greatly change the way the game works. Just imagine, you have a projectile launching enemy from a high platform, instead of jumping and shooting it from a safe distance and killing it easily, now you have to think of a plan, you have to think whether you're gonna charge in there or not.

    Although this was done in Megaman X4 series where you can use a playable character Zero, there are limitations to what you can do at a time, unlike fighting games, you can't connect two moves consecutively, there will always be a delay.

    So, what I would like to include in this change would be the common hack n' slash game mechanic like Devil May Cry, where you can actually mix and match combos and the enemies won't die unless you finish the combo. Another would be that every boss would give you a new weapon, and those weapons also have their own movesets. The game game could have a currency like in DMC they had Red Orbs/Proud Souls to purchase new moves, extra bonuses, and perhaps another armor. It would also be nice if there's a 2 player mode, player 1 can play as Megaman player 2 can play as rush, or better yet player 1 can play as X and player 2 can play as Zero, now that's twice the exploding balls in one screen. And lastly, mini games that are long, and in reference to DMC again for consistency, a mini game like the Bloody Palace, they could make it into a "Rusty Eiffel Tower." It would really change the way players would treat a Megaman game.

    Now, imagine Megaman, a platformer, with these mechanics, and people won't stop destroying mavericks, people wouldn't 100% finish the game and just throw it away after that, in case they're bored, they could play a mini game that's like the aforementioned idea, or any mini game at all as long there's a score to be bested. Then they could add a leaderboards where you can see millions of players online who have a better score than you.

  5. I would choose Mystery Case Files (Huntsville, in particular), a casual game that is known for its mind-bending hidden object puzzles. These are the things I would like to change to this game to make it more playable and enjoying:

    PLAYERS: Instead of a 1 player game, make an option of having a "VERSUS MODE" wherein 2 players would face-off against one another in finding the hidden objects. Once the time ran out, the player with the most number of hidden objects founded wins the game. It will also be beneficial to the game if they'll launch an online mode that would be called "The World's Mystery". It would match players up against each other anywhere in the world. Players compete in real-time, and rankings climb and fall according to their performance in a given puzzle.

    OBJECTIVE: Instead of solving each and every puzzles in each level to finish the game and more importantly, solve the case, I'll make it more interesting by having this big picture of a crime scene you are tasked to solve, and in every level you finish, a small part of the picture would be given to you in order to complete it and finally solve the case assigned to you.

    RESOURCES:
    - Add more hints ('coz in every level of MCF, I think there are only 3 hints available for use)
    - Have some powerups (extra time, extra hint, etc.) that would also be hidden in each level to make it more challenging and at the same time, enjoying.
    - Make a special powerup wherein player would be given a magnifying glass in order to examine thoroughly the environment of the level. This powerup would only last for about 10 seconds.

    I think these changes would make the game more exciting and interesting and would definitely give other casual games a run for their money.

  6. My pick would be the third installment of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. It might have better looks in some areas but it’s really just a copy of Tony Hawk 2. I have figured out for almost every pro on this game, there is a con. Below is the list of the elements that I might change for the game.

    There are two-player games available (limited only) but there are no new two-player games. I wished that they could’ve added more since it’s already the 3rd installment of the game.

    Yes, you can choose to skate as Tony or 13 other pro skaters except Bob Burnquist. I think players should have every opportunity to use every skater of their choice whether Tony and the other 13 and also Bob Burnquist.

    The procedures of playing the game is entirely comfortable for me so I will not make any changes about it although the game added hidden combos.

    Yes, there is a new and more challenging career mode with 8 massive levels
    Such as Canada and Tokyo to explore but some goals are so ridiculously hard to get, you are sure to get frustrated after a while. They could’ve made every goal possible to get for the players to pass the level because the game really showed unrealistic aspects.

    As a gamer of a skating game, you need to create a skater or customize but in ther game, creating a Skater mode is still optional just like the first two installments of the game. A great option would be to add new hairstyles AND option to create female skaters. Just imagine, not only the players would enjoy playing but maybe female players would be joining the game too.

    In the game, the skate park editor is back and you can choose new styles for your parks. What I would like to include in this change will be adding of new objects, change the sizes of parks and add new pre-made parks to make the players eyes’ appreciate the appearance of the game even more and plus, it’s good for their eyes because they got the chance to customize it for their own sake.

    My selected game would be "Slender: The Arrival"
    Quite an intense game, one of which maybe called the best Slender game by far with it's improved graphics and well played story line.

    "Slender: The Arrival" has a few levels to tackle being:

    OBJECTIVES:
    - Find all 8 pages
    - Turn on generator
    - Close windows and doors
    - Avoid fire and Slender (ending)

    If I were to change a few of the Formal Elements in this game, I would do the following:

    PLAYERS - I would allow 2 - 4 players in the game to allow a group hunt for notes/ tasks. The same way "GMod" allows multiplayer.

    GOALS - Normally, the Slender game is focused on you finding notes. There are some special indie Slender games which allow you to become the Slender and find your fellow team mates who play the human character in search for notes (such as GMod and Slendertubbies)

    RULES & BOUNDARIES - I'd allow a longer sprint/ run mechanic to exist in the game. Also, I would remove the "low on batteries" mechanic as so that the focus on notes and avoiding slender would be clearer. I would also add a jump mechanic to go along.

    My selected game would be Devil May Cry (DmC) because I've been playing this game for ten months and I never get too tired of playing this game.

    So I got these four elements of what should I change and here I go:

    GOAL- The original goal of DmC is saving the human world by using Dante and to kill Mundus and defeat Vergil to stop conquering the human world. I want to change that Mundus should not be in the game or in the story because I just don't see why is he the villain or why is he taking the human world? If only he has tragedies in the past or bad childhood memories, it might be my chance to understand why is he a villain like Vergil. I was thinking that it should be Vergil,Dante's older brother, be the one who will control the human world instead of Mundus because unlike Mundus, he had this supreme jealousy on Dante since their childhood and I want change that Dante and Vergil must not help each other as a team to defeat Mundus, it should be Dante must defeat Vergil and replace Mundus as the main villain.


    PROCEDURE- The procedure still the same but I want add more of it like I want more combo techniques because the combo wasn't enough for me like there are 10 or 15 more combo about using Dante's blade and I want to add more because I'm getting too tired of using the same combos and I want to learn more combos maybe 25 should be enough for me and also the other Dante's weapons,too. I want more enemies to get slashed,shot or killed and extend the enemies life to enjoy more on the combo slash. Lastly, if you kill your enemies, I want more red orbs in order to buy healing objects something like that.

    BOUNDARIES- I have this problem about "DmC" and "DmC:Vergil's downfall" because after you play DmC by using your Xbox 360,it should be only DmC but you cannot extend the story because you don't have "DmC:Vergil's downfall" to install it unless you're using PC instead of using Xbox 360. I want to change that when you're playing Xbox 360 and you want to extend more, I suggest that "DmC" and "DmC:Vergil's Downfall" should be merged in one disc so that we can all enjoy playing it and knowing the story.

    RESOURCES- There is one thing I just want to change about the resouces, when you want to buy a healing object or any items in order you to survive the game, of course you're going to buy it but the problem is after you buy it the price will increase and I'm suggesting that it shouldn't increase so that your red orbs will not get wasted. That's it.

    For me about this game, it was great actually and I'm hoping for the future that it will be better than now.

    I picked the newest installment in the Batman trilogy which would be “Batman Origins”. This third installment was given to different game studio so some of the elements have changed. These are the list of things that I would like to change in this game.


    GOAL- In the first 2 installments, everything in the story fits well together. Even the introduction of new villains seams well to the main arc. In Batman Origins however, some of the enemies just don’t fit well in the story. It’s like they were just put in the game to add a few more rosters. The game’s goal was to introduce Batman in his early years as the Caped Crusader. If I can change that, I would have given more importance to the introduction of his villains as to familiarize the gamers to each characters and motivations. We already knew that Batman is Bruce Wayne. A little backstory to each villain won't hurt. Joker is a very interesting character. A few people knows how he became the Joker.


    PROCEDURE- The procedure in this game is simple. Defeat the enemies using your fist or rank up your combos by mixing his gadgets with your combos. Double tap on the shortcut key button for your corresponding gadget and Batman will use it. It would have been better if they just made it to single tap. Sometimes, I would just get into the flow of action that I would forget that a double tap is required to activate my gadget. It’s just jarring to see my combo meter go down just because of the double tap mechanism.

    BOUNDARIES- GRAPPLING HOOK! This was a game changer in at the previous installments of the game. Going from point A to B was as simple as pressing a button. The grappling system was overhauled in this installment. I’m having a hard time grappling to buildings and sometimes I need to find a quick escape but... Alas! Nothing to grapple on. It would be better if they have retained the old grappling system where you don’t have to look up just to find someplace to grapple on to. A better grappling detection system would have been better.

    RESOURCES- New gadgets! It would be exciting to use new gadgets in this game. Most of the gadgets have been used a gazzilion times in the previous installments. Game is more like a DLC than a prequel.

    The game is great in its own right. What made it lose points was it didn’t try to reinvent itself like most game IPs would do.

  12. I choose Grand Theft Auto : Vice City. First of all when i was a kid it was really hard to finish especially the missions so the kids like me dont play the mission as well. We just steal and kill. Now i still dont know if i can finish it "without" cheats. Because some missions are really hard especially when you die? Youre gonna buy again your weapons. So i will not allow CHEATS and when the character die, the weapons will still remain.
    Players: still the same. One character. Because its not a racing game to put two or more players.
    Goals or objectives? Still the missions. But i want to add something. The character will find a girl and marry. And to have allied gangs in the missions.
    Resources: more guns and quality bulletproof vest.
    More money when you steal.
    Underwater cars
    The character can swim also.

  13. Dissidia: Final Fantasy

    Dissidia is a one on one crossover fighting game of the Final Fantasy series. So basically it’s a game that allows you beat the crap out of each other with your favorite Final Fantasy character and that is quite exciting as it is but I want to mix things up a bit more so I would change the following:

    Players: So from one on one, I would add to it a 4 player game mode in which you can choose from team battle to an all out royal rumble.

    Rules: Rules are pretty much the same, although I would restrict the use of healing abilities. In versus mode you are limited to 3 specials, so for example cloud can only use 3 limit breaks, so better make them count.

    Resources: I mentioned in the rules that healing abilities are restricted instead you can find Hp restore items and mana potions when you destroy some items in the area like rocks or stone columns. You can also find the item phoenix down but they are very rare, you would have a 3/10 chance of finding one.

    Conflict: During team vs team and royal rumble mode, a random boss (like bahamut or any other boss from the series) would appear at any random time and will attack anyone of the players and the catch is the team/player who manages to kill the boss or land the final hit would gain a stat boost for 1 minute and will be allowed to use as many specials as the player wants so long as the stat boost is still active. So if a boss appears it's either you attack the boss and try to get the power up or kill the other players while their busy dealing with the boss or whichever strategy works.

  14. I'll pick Pokemon, mainly the lower versions (Red, Gold, Ruby)

    Pokemon is basically a role-playing game (RPG), with an element of strategy.

    Players: 1 player, with the exception of 2 players involving linked plays.

    Goals: Depends on the player, either to collect every pokemon, or defeating the Pokemon League.

    The only thing I want to add is the possibility of trading into much newer versions like Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, Pokemon Black and White, Pokemon x and Y. I would also like to add the possibility of players to travel into different regions other than the designated region in the version they are playing.

  15. If I were to change a game, I will go for GTA or Grand Theft Auto. I played it once and I can’t complete the missions due to time limit, the police, and getting the car really messed up until it explodes. All I did was steal cars, beat up people, and destroying everything with a tank. Hahaha.

    Players: For me, it would be exciting if there were four players or multiplayer mode instead of one. Let’s say like Left 4 Dead. Well, I don’t know if the latest versions of GTA have multiplayers or so, I hadn't played it anymore.

    Goals or Objectives: The missions are still the same; however, since there is more than one player now, it would be easy to accomplish it. Especially those chasing stuff, one or two will chase the target and the others will go ahead to a certain place or other route and block the target’s way. And if it failed, then the players will type what they want to say on a chat box if there’s any, like “Why did you let them get away dude?!”

    Procedures: The most objective of this game is to steal a car, right? So, it is either each of the players steal the car they want or they will ride all together on one car. And oh, I almost forgot, the players can only interact with each other if there is mission. They can see each other if they’re in the same place but they cannot talk freely to each other.

    Resources: Your team. If you are beaten up, then your friend can revive you or take revenge. Hahaha. They can also plan on how they stop the police from chasing them. Like they will spread out or something.

    It is like teamwork and strategy.

  16. My pick would be Counterstrike an online shooting game the most popular online shooting game when i was a kid. i would change some elements to make it more intersting.

    for player:
    -when you're dead and you need to wait until one team win, instead of waiting for them to die you will respawn for 5 secondss because the more you kill the more money you will get to buy expensive weapons
    -it will be more interesting if im going to add more characters.

    for resources:
    -its better to add more guns and weapons because using old and same guns is boring
    -when someone died he/she will drop a box of ammo and when you pick it your ammo will increase
    -i would like to add POWER UPS everywhere and it will last up to 5 seconds these are the power ups i would like to add
    -unlimited ammo
    -invisibilty
    -everyone will restore 50hp



    for goal:
    -its still the same for counter terrorist you will rescue the hostages defuse c5 for terrorist you will plant c5 at the bombsite, but i would like to add a goal a mission for counterterrorist and their mission is to deliver the parcel at the delivery site but when the holder of the parcel killed the player will dropped the parcel in the same place until one the team member will get the parcel and deliver at the delivery site and win the round.

    Modified Rules:
    Board/Grid-based gameplay, protect the high ranking official while eliminating your opponents.
    Players play on the same map and Fog of War shrouds the map.
    Some units confer long-range attacks while others are AoE suicide troops.

    Objective: You assume the role of a military commander and are tasked with defeating the Empire.

    Players: Single Player ( 1 vs CPU )

    Procedure: Point and click, Real-time Turn-based (You wait for your tanks to 'connect' to be able to command them, same goes for enemy)

    Rules:
    >>Human tanks (yours and enemies); Connect (unit ready to act); Move(How many tiles the selected tank can move); Speed(How long before it can act again); Attack Range(How far you can attack); Attack Area(How many tiles your attack covers); Recon(How far you can scout); Recon Area(How many tiles you can scout)
    >>Can attack through Fog of War, no line-of-sight needed; Can only move tanks when they are 'connected', can only attack tiles that are inside currently selected Tank's Range
    >>If shot/caught in blast radius > Tank Dead; If Command Tank is dead and no other command tanks from that faction is in field > Battle end (goes for player and AI)

    Boundaries: Pre-set Map with enemies already deployed there.

    Resources: Human Tanks(especially Command tanks), Time, Supplies (in game currency), Fog of War

    Outcome:
    >Zero Sum: Win or Lose
    >Not Zero Sum: You win and proceed to next battle; You lose and GAME OVER; You lose and proceed to next battle (game has branching paths)

    Conflict: Enemy tanks, Fog of War, Tanks' different connection speeds, Game Timer(only on some maps)

  18. If I were to change a game, I'll pick bioshock infinite.

    Players: since it is a single player or a first person shooting game I would like to add a second player in it were he or she can play as Elizabeth since Elizabeth needs no protection unlike the first bioshock.

    Resources: I would like the character can carry more weapons, since In the game the character can only carry two weapon.

    Goal: the goals are still the same but since the other player can control Elizabeth the story of game will be different. And the players will have a chance to know Elizabeth more since she looks mysterious to me.

  19. I would choose ‘Left 4 Dead’, an arcade-style video game. Since this game has a plot story on it and tells that there’s a ‘place’ where suffers a ‘Green Flu’ which cause them an extreme aggression, mutation to the body cells, and a higher functions of brain that makes them crazy and they become zombies. And then there was only 4 survivor.

    I picked this because I would like to change the life of that four survivors. Make it more real and at the end of the game there is only 1 or 2 survivors or none. This is to make it more interested. So, for the...
    PLAYER: It contains two game modes: campaign and single-player. The ‘campaign’ consists of the four human-controlled survivors who attempt to make their way between safe rooms and to rescue as well. But as I suggested that the lives of every player would make it real like if one of them been bitted of the enemies and of course he/she will be infected of virus and he/she will be a zombie and for that the campaign will now consist of 3 human-survivor and decide to killed their one-of-survivor and so on, until the game end. For the single-player it is similar to campaign mode. But he/she plays it alone or face the enemies alone, obviously.
    GAME/PROCEDURE: If you choose either campaign/single-player mode, in the game that you will choose where you would like to face first the enemies. What I would like to change is that no choice of a place, just what the plot of the game have. So, if it start to play the game and to that first place the player will face-off, it is the obviously the first level of the game and also for every place and level the player will encounter, the player can’t come back to the place he/she been through until the game ends.
    GOAL: Still the same that the four human-controlled survivors help each other and go through a level safety. But when there is an infected player the left survivors must killed him/her. For make it real and interested to what will happen to the four human-controlled survivors at the end of the game. Are the players will still complete and go through a level safety?

  20. I'd like to add two changes to Temple Run.

    One is the number of players and the other is being able to play it not only on your cellphone or I-pad or something but also on Wii or as an interactive/ motion-sensor video game.
    The game Temple Run has only one player, and I'd like to shake it up a bit by adding a two-player or multi-player feature. There'll still be a lot of running and overcoming of obstacles of course, but this time, it'll be like a race, too. You can distract the other players while trying to avoid the obstacles in your way. You can even race them in getting the coins that you'll run into, so if you can't get to that side of the arena, then your opponent will get the coins and life-ups.The game screen will be wider and there'll be more obstacles because of the addition of players. It's up to your "diskarte" how you can get through the obstacles.
    On the part where you can play it: If your gadget's screen can't give enough space for one or more players, then you and your friends can play it by connecting and competing with each other online. Or you and the other players can play it in front of the same screen through Wii or a video game.

    Goal? The last player to "survive" or stay in the game wins. It's a "May the best man win" game.

    Playing Temple Run always gives me an adrenaline rush and so much thrill, and, with the changes in number of players, that thrill and excitement can be doubled (or tripled) and shared with many. :)

  21. Right now, I'm into this game in the Internet called Shingeki no Kyoujin. I must admit it's because of the anime. Basically, you kill titans and play it in your Computer. I also think that there will be a game out for Nintendo DS. So, to win, you do a button smashing. I always wondered how it would be Different if it was played in Wii. Instead of clicking the mouse so that you can attack, you will really have to slice with all of your arm. To fly or jump, you have to jump in reality too. And to use the Gear, you will have to point and press the trigger button bellow the remote for it to work. Oh, also, you might run out of gas and blades, so will have to return to the base to have it refilled. Then, it will have a story mode.

    If it really does happen, I think it would be much more fun and cooler than the current game in the internet. Of course, the graphics should be somewhere in league with Legend of Zelda. It would also be much more challenging since all your body is moving. The only downside would be that it might have a limit of only four players depending on your remotes and the capacity of your signal getter (lol, i don't know what it's called XD). Wii should have a feature that you can play games with internet so that you can play with your friends even if they were not with you. That would be so cool.

  22. My pick would be: The Testament of Sherlock Holmes. It's the sixth installment developed by Frogwares on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes story. Its a very fun and visual game that I think a lot would enjoy. But I think in changing the following the game would be more interesting:

    Player:
    In the game you play the character of Holmes while the Watson character only walks around with you and comment a bit. I think it would be more fun if there is an option where you could have another player to play Watson making it possible for the game to have the option of 2 against the system itself.
    Conflict:
    Besides the clues you need to find in the crime scene there are also mini games. I think there should be a definite set of rules per mini game and a level of difficulty because almost all of the mini games are tough and some of them are really hard to figure out what to do exactly to win the mini game and get another clue.

    I would choose Prince of Persia the sands of time on the ps2 (the first one to ever come out before the motion picture game). I loved the game because it had this great story and gameplay back then
    PLAYERS:
    Single player platform throughout the whole game. it was great having to play as the prince with all his acrobatics and skills. In this portion I think it wouldn't hurt to play as Farrah. I mean we had fun with the prince but, maybe adding a little side story to the main quest? For example, maybe we can play as Farrah as she's trying to escape the clutches of Vizier? maybe? I think it wouldn't hurt that much.
    GOAL:
    The goal is practically to save princess Farrah from the evil clutches of the sultan wannabe Vizier who wants to make Farrah his princess and to save his kingdom from being engulfed by the power of the sands of time which changed the whole kingdom and its people into sand monsters. Now the prince has to save the one he loves and his kingdom using the dagger of time. In this portion maybe I wouldn't want to add or change anything, the side missions are good enough for me to not get bored of the game, and the side missions still is a part of the story so no big problems on the goals.
    PROCEDURES:
    Mainly the procedures of the game would are to turn cranks to open doors, jump to ledges and then jump to hanging poles then jump again to get to another spot. do silent/ stealth kills on unexpected victims. i would just want to change how we should travel, I mean we wouldn't have to go all acrobatic every single time just to get from one place to another. We could look for more items to open doors or break through them. It's first of its kind to do the whole acrobatics thing but as they say too much isn't good for you.
    BOUNDARIES:
    Because this game was made in the early 2000's the game has a lot of boundaries. The game is purely set. You know where to go and what you have to do in order to get off of a particular stage. i would want to change this, I'd make it into an open world environment, maybe like tomb raider or halo. It would make it more interesting to see how the prince would manage to scale himself up to different routes just to get to a particular place.
    RESOURCES:
    The resources would be the sand gauge. That gauge makes the game more exciting having to control and manipulate time> another resource would be the water fountains which lets you save and fill up your health. In this portion I wouldn't want to change anything, The search for each fountain to save and heal up is excitingly frustrating at times when dealing with hordes of enemies and traps, can't forget the traps, which makes the game pretty challenging.

    Overall I enjoyed this game as the first of its kind, which showed us acrobatics in parkour style free running in a whole environment. I believe this game was followed by the assassins creed series, which undoubtedly was a great series til the Ezio trilogy of the game then after that I just lost the interest.

  24. I'd choose SKYRIM. Although for me, it is the purest of the pure. (aside from fallout 3. because well... fallout 3. )

    If you change the gameplay instead of sandbox and you lock the game play with in the story line maybe you won't be able to enter places that are supposed to be tackled later on. Because being a sandbox game, you can venture on your own and you wouldn't know if the place you are going to is a place you're not supposed to go to at the moment which is very annoying when you already cleared that place off of its unwelcomed residents and the towns folk tells you that the place is crowded or infested by marauders/bears/dragons etc. and you have to go there and kill and when you get back they respawn even though the map says you've cleared the place.

    That one thing I'd like to maybe improve/change and to make up for it no more quests that are repetitive and dash in more entertaining side quests to keep the player more amused and hyped about the story line. Other than that, Skyrim is perfect. Then again, if you lock the gameplay it won't feel the adventure as much as it is in sandbox mode.

    (maybe a perk to control giants, mammoths, and other beings in skyrim to do your bidding and play as a god in the game. that would be interesting.)

    (ALSO MAYBE BETHESDA WOULD LET YOUR CHARACTER MARRY SERANA (a character who has fought beside you and obviously has gained the trust and fellowship of the dragonborn) [OR ANY NPC FOR THAT MATTER] BECAUSE THAT WOULD BE SO CUTE.)

  25. Hmm. On Gangster games (GTA,Mafia,Saints Row etc). Their common enemy is the police force. What I would like to do is to switch the objectives, the player would then be a police to stop the gangs. They would be able to rise in ranks and obtain more powerful weapons but if they have casualties or kill civilians they would be demoted back to a mall cop.

  26. Mass Effect having 2 players. Gameplay wise, the 2 ai followers would turn out to be 1 for each, making it slightly less of a challenge controlling your group, however with there being 2 players, there may be some outer challenges like, which player would charge first, or how they would set up their skills to complement each other. Also, since it would be somewhat easy, the game difficulty may be ramped up and/or there may be less hiding spots for the players, making it more of a challenge. Story-wise, each player would have their own romance and arcs making it pretty interesting which the partner would choose if both male players were hitting on a girl ai, or maybe it could be both players hitting on each other.

  27. Grand Theft Auto Series

    Bounderies: It would be better to have children/animals in the game (Like in GTA V; except the children thing, no kids in GTA V) and you can kill them. LOL

    Another thing is to have a first-person view in all GTA series, that would be fun. Not really a nice thing since the game focuses in an open world 3-dimensional view of the game, but who cares! You said experiment hahaha!

  28. I'm not much of a gamer but I'm currently playing this mobile fantasy card game called Valkyrie Crusade.

    Basically the main goal of the game is to collect and evolve different kinds of cards which you use to either fight against other players or go into the campaign mode to conquer different areas and fight against potential archwitches.

    Another feature of the game is the ability to build your own city inside your kingdom. You can upgrade important and useful facilities by spending resources on it. Building/Upgrading any facility takes time. In fact, the game is based in real-time, meaning that every minute that passes in real life is a minute passed in the game.

    PLAYERS:
    This game is on a player vs. system theme with female characters as you're avatars. I know that Valkyrie Crusade's main audience are guys but I wish they also make Male Versions of the cards as to encourage girl players to collect more cards.

    PROCEDURES:
    The game is quite simple, complete quests you get funds or you get a card. In these quests, the player engages in different boss battles to conquer the lands. The thing I would change is the battle phases, as Valkyrie Crusade is focused on card collecting, it doesn't prioritize battles, I wanted Valkyrie Crusade to have a battle phase were in you decide the moves you're characters do.

    BOUNDARIES: I would like to change especially the limit of swimming in the beach. I would love it if Sims can be played like GTA.

  30. The game I picked is "Langit Lupa." It is a Filipino traditional game wherein the players should step on the "langit" and it is where the "i" is restricted to step. The main goal of the game is to not get tagged by the "it."

    These are the things I would like to change to add some spice:

    PLAYERS: In the game there is only one "it" and any number of players can join. I would change it to one pair of "it" so the "it"would not get tired easily. The two "it" can help each other to get the players.

    GOALS/OBJECTIVES: The main goal of the game is do not get tagged by the "it."
    I would not change the main goal but I will add another one. The players should go to numerous "langit" as many as they can, In order to win, the player/s should pass the eight stages of "langit" without getting tagged.

    Rules: The rule of the game is do not stay too long on one "langit" or else, the "it" will cont one to ten in order for the player to run. I would not change the rule but I would add two more. The "it" will also measure two inches from the "langit" and when the player is reachable, the "it" can tag the player. The last rule I would add is, there is a "pato" (stone-like) wherein players can pass from each other in order to save their selves. But when the "it" catches the "pato," the last one who holds/throws the "pato" would be the next "it."

    BOUNDARIES/RESOURCES: In the game, there are only limited "langit" to stand. I would change it to: The"langit" are limitless and before starting the game, the players should put up the eight stages of "langit" stations.

    OUTCOME: In the game, there is no winner. The "it" will only change everytime someone gets tagged. The changes I would make is someone can be the winner by passing the eight stages of "langit" without getting tagged by the two "it."

    CONFLICT: The dilemma of the game is, there are two "its" and eight stages of "langit," Therefore the players would have a hard time to pass and win.

  33. I would choose Chess. It's a game played between two opponents. Each player has 16 chess pieces and the main goal of the game is to checkmate the "king" of your opponent. Checkmate occurs when the king is trapped and cannot do a move anymore.

    I would like the queen to have the move of the knight too. Because, whenever I play chess I always wished my queen to do the knight’s move so that there would be this one very precious chess piece to freely move in the board. Like it just crossed in my mind, “What if the queen can do anything that other piece does.” It would be an extra challenge for the both players because, there would be a greater chance to think of moves to checkmate. And I think changing this certain rule, making the queen very powerful will make a big change in the game. If the queen can do this, I think the game could stand with just the queen and the king and if ever, just some support of some other pieces like for example (queen, king and rook or queen, king and horse). The player may also disregard all the other pieces if ever. When this happen I think the opponent would be more careful in moving pieces and it is also going to be a threat for you to lose the queen. Especially because a lot of players think that it is the must have or the most essential piece of the game and numerous players can survive the game with just the king and the queen. What more if this new rule occurs?

    Basically, the game revolves around quests and adventures.. so in this game you'll make your own story in the maple world. A player will just choose a job and the story will vary upon the chosen job. The exciting thing about this game is there's a lot of jobs to choose from... and people you'll meet and socialize with internationally.

    The problem that I've encountered is that there's no PVP in this game. Players tend to maximize their level and get godly stuffs just to kill mobs.. the idea of battling with other people will make it more challenging and enjoying. I guess changing the element of players into players vs players or cpu or mobs/quests would make the game very awesomely cool. That's it.

  35. In my past years, I was also an avid gamer but when I entered college I temporarily stopped in playing computer games and concentrated in my studies. But for now, for an assignment purposes I choose "Red Alert" one of my most favorite game. It is a strategic game where you can really enjoy giving battle commands but I want to improve more the style, graphics, and the story of this game.

    Objective: As far as I remembered, the objective of the game is to complete every mission in your chosen team or states. When you complete your goal you will proceed to the next level. My only suggestion is to add a story line of after and before finishing the game. Like a story board by the main character or a video of your team.

    Procedure: controlling your army and giving command to destroy enemies base is the common procedure of this game. But for some improvement i would like to add some controls like speaking to your army like typing some command or chat in your own base.

    Resources: in the gameplay, it would be better if the abandon buildings contain some weapons that could use instead of wasting money to buy new weapons.

    Additionally, I really want to improve the graphics of this game like DOTA where the attacks have special effects whereas I would like to add in Red Alert.

    I would choose Borderlands 2 for this. (I would've picked the Assassin's Creed series but they improve the game in every installment so yeah I ain't got beef with Ubisoft.)

    The game is pretty good in itself. But if I was to change an element in the game it would the customization options. You know, as an ABMA student I have this itch to change the appearance of everything about the player, so that this character I'm playing is definitely unique. If I have to gun down a whole village of goons I should be dressed up the bad-ass I want to be. I want full-on customization, not just color palette changes.

    And then some item outfits should have environment effects to it being a resource element to the game. For example in a desert environment a player can equip a cloak with a sand color and then adding a "camouflage" power-up for the player, or roller blades for assassin-type characters to increase speed.

    With that I think I would have more fun and spend more hours playing it.

    Mirrors Edge is a linear game so you can go where the game wants you but if you change it's boundaries maybe a little bit so you can explore of the world it would change the whole experience.

    Also if you add a points into the gameplay the game would be more exciting as you can challenge your friends for a friendly competition as well completing the campaign.

  39. PROCEDURE: (Shoot the target by pointing the gun with a laser on the zombie, making you unable to move when firing your weapon.) I would like to change Resident Evil 5's perspective into a first person view like left for dead every time I'm shooting at something, so to walk or to run and to aim at something will create that feeling of belonging, that feeling of you being in the game itself. I also believe that it will help players to shoot more accurate and faster.

    I am not a gamer so I only play few games like Zombie Tsunami which can be played anywhere as long as you download it in your ipad or cellphone. If I would change something on that game it would be the power-ups like the Tsunami, Ninja and Dragon. I will change its appearance to make it more appealing and I will also change the skills to make it more challenging.

    The game is easy but as you go along you will find it interesting because of the missions and power-ups. This game is like Temple Run but this time Zombies are running and the player should keep them alive without falling or being exploded by the bomb. As the zombies run they can bump cars with people inside it afterwards they will also became zombies. To be a winner in this game the player should keep many zombies as long as they can but it's hard to reach 90 or 100 because the zombies run faster and faster as they reach large number.

    I will put many power-ups so that the players will have many choices to use to get more zombies and a lot of money to be used for missions and for changing their hats.

  41. The game I chose is an old one, but still amazing if you tried to play it. It's Thrillville, the game I used to play before in PSP. The game consists of one player who's goal is to build your very own amusement park. It would be a bit similar to Sims since it includes construction and interaction with other people in the game.

    Once you make your own amusement park and for you to continue the game, the park and the rides, the food stalls, and the mini games should let you earn money. Because, the more money you have, the more customers and rides and other stalls you will be able to have,

    If I were to change some contents in the game, it would be more fun if the player can have more than one amusement park to have, and have more goals to achieve before the player could build more rides. Also, it would also be better if the player could create his very own ride, For example, a roller coaster. How fast would it be? How long is the track? Is it a scary height kind of ride or will it be suitable for children under 12? Stuff like that.

    Games could be mystifying. Especially I didn't leave myself get indulged with it.
    Limbo, a trial and error game, requires a high intellect for it is genius itself -by all means. A perfect game, perhaps. Hence, it took hold of my interest. Number of players, objects, procedures, and resources displayed positive effects. Take control of the first step and get yourself into the dilemma definitely. Awesome.

    Regardless of how, what seems to be lacking isn't the game's loss. In my view, It could be more competitive if there will be fighting -not just resisting attacks. Go forward, go backward, jump and grab -just a bit of interaction. Maybe some ways like adding more wildlife that might kill alongside, making it more realistic and appropriate to the setting. Since he has the ability to grab, he can set traps. Furthermore, he can construct things as his weapon to fight and kill -just the animals.

    What takes the players so long to figure out what to do, is simply experiment for several times. The story appears to have a tail end. Of course, the boy has something to find out. It's the ending that keeps the players hanging. I mean, after all those determined attempts, players do not understand what the character wants to fulfill. Otherwise it might be the mystery of the game. If I were to add something for the outcome, I will make a puzzle that will show me exactly what the boy is trying to solve -the utmost part, never going back from the beginning. Some sort of a time pressure that can bring his sister nearly to death or fighting, distractions and saving his sister all at the same time will do.

    Limbo is rational. But no more than finding, reckoning, supposing and thinking. Absolutely wonderful!

    I chose this game because this game is Very Cool and the stories are Good, From beginning till the end and the characters are Look awesome too, for me, I like this game since I was a child I played "Final fantasy 8", "Final fantasy 9" and they're good too.

    About this game, this game is an Role Playing Game, You will start from Level 1 and you need to level up from 1 to 100 in order to defeat every enemies you will encounter and don't forget to find items like health potion, mana potion, weapons, armors to increase your stats.

    If I were to change this mechanics of the game. I would Change/Add a PvP system at the end of the game or after you finish the game and you can new game it but in main menu you will see a "New Game+", You will start what level you are and the enemies became Hard to fight.

    -I chose this game because this a very fun, challenging and addicting game. But I think it would be much better if they can set the difficulty from easy to insane and when it is set to the hardest mode the field of the game enlarges and as well can battle for ranking positions and gold coins with an opponent
    -I also want to add super boosters like time freeze and in the last 10 sec of the game will be a field full of stars which goes for the bonus score. That last 10 seconds of the game is about getting more stars before the clock dies for the bonus score

    -There should be a wireless battle for it which enables the players to challenge their friends for a ranking match and gold coins in the game

    The game starts with a cinematic showing protagonist Jason Brody on vacation with a group of friends in Bangkok celebrating Jason's younger brother Riley on getting a pilot license. During their vacation they decide to take a skydiving trip. They land on a pirate-infested island, and are taken prisoner by Vaas, their leader. Vaas plans to extort ransom money from their parents, then sell them into slavery. With the help of his older brother Grant, Jason breaks out of captivity, however Grant is killed by Vaas in the escape. Jason is rescued by Dennis Rogers, who is part of the Rakyat, the island natives who suffer due to the activities of the pirates. Dennis, seeing great potential in Jason, convinces him that the only way to save his friends is to become a warrior. Jason agrees and Dennis gives him the tattoos of a Rakyat warrior. Then Dennis asks Jason to help the Rakyat in their fight against the pirates arguing that this will also lead him to finding and freeing his friends. Jason then runs a number of missions for the Rakyat and ends up finding one of his friends, Daisy, at the house of Dr. Earnhardt. Impressed with Jason's prowess, the Rakyat allow him enter their sacred temple. Their leader Citra initiates him into the tribe, after Jason finds the Dragon Knife, a dagger that is a relic for the Rakyat. Dennis then sends him to more missions for the Rakyat. During this second mission streak, Jason is helped at times by Dr. Earnhardt and Willis Huntley, a CIA agent.     Far Cry 3 is a first-person shooter, which also features role-playing game elements including experience points, skill trees, and a crafting system. The player has the ability to perform silent takedowns by performing melee attacks from above, below, or close behind. The game's narrative director, Jason Vandenberghe, said that the story mode map is around ten times larger than the game's previous installments. Players are given the ability to survey and plan out their attacks with stealth takedown combinations and tag enemies with the camera in order to track their movement once they break the player's line of sight.

    I chose this game because it has various complicated extras that Pacman must avoid. The four ghosts that will kill him. So i think it would be much better if Pacman would've more complicated opponent to avoid to get the dots like the ghost will turn bigger and bigger and so as Pacman when he gets the pill. The maze could be super complicated like you'd be stuck there in seconds and i think it would be more fun if there will be small bombs applied to be able to escape.

  47. Mario Kart Double Dash for the Nintendo Gamecube

    Mario Kart Double Dash is an exciting game that enables four players to go against each other or against the system in a death race. The main objective is to win and gain points as many as you can in order to unlock new characters, stages, and special cars. Each player is allowed to have two characters in the race and it is the player’s decision to come up with a team of dynamic duos for the race. Each character contains a special item that allows them to use in the track once obtained from the rotating question marked box. However, this is also a game of chance so the player will not get their special items and instead acquire random ones. During the race the two characters, picked by the main player, are allowed to switch seats so that they both could get items, meaning the more items they receive the more chance of advantage they have to winning.
    What I’d like to change in this game is the procedures during the race. It’s a bit of a hassle having to swap seats with the two characters when one of them is holding an item and driving at the same time (yes, it’s possible). In order for the character to use the item, he/she has to be in the back seat so he/she could hit the other players with the characters’ item. Instead of having to switch seats with each other, why not pass it to the character behind them? I think the game would be a little more hectic and exciting.

    I know it’s not only me spending or wasting time with this game, half of your day by just building and designing your house, and another half of your day customizing your sims/character. Then just a half hour of playing its actual game. You’ll take care of your sims, make him/her smart, talented, attractive blah blah. And I just realize that your having these goals and just appreciating it all by yourself. So how I wish it could be an online game. that I could play it with my friends.

    PLAYERS: yes, you could still decide what would be your sims/character be like. It would be much better if you customize it just like you, so your friends will easily recognize that it’s yours.

    GOAL/OBJECTIVE: take care of your sims, because in the game, it will stand as you. Make it always presentable, smart, talented etch. So that your friends will see how addict you really are with the game.

    PROCEDURES: Make your sims, customize it, make it looks like you. And build your house. Go to different places or houses of your friends, hang out with them, go to school, get a job, earn money, so you could make your house bigger and nicer. And have friends, flirt someone, marry him/her, make children and so fort. Same thing with our real life.

    RULES: you cannot use cheats anymore. Your sims have to get a job and earn money so you could design your house. So it will be more challenging for the players.

    BOUNDARIES: how about there are no boundaries? Let’s say it’s now an online game, kinda same with social networks such as facebook. Everyone who plays sims could be your friend in the game. you can go wherever you want. Since there will be a lot of players will play this game. means, more houses, buildings, malls and parks you could go.

    RESOURCES: You want your sims to have a better life? Then make it smart so it can easily get a job, to earn MONEY. And money could be the number one resource in this game, which is same thing with our real life.

    OUTCOME: your sims is just like you. Its life could also end up soon. So the outcome of this game is that your sims will die happy? Rich? Success? Or just a poor sims who died because of hungry?

    CONFLICT: if you don’t have internet at your home. Then you’re doomed. Because, again.. your sims is just like you, if you didn’t feed him/her.. he/she will die. So visit or play this game at least once or twice in a week.

    The Sims 3: University

    Sims 3: University is an expansion pack for the sims 3. I picked this game because it is different from the other expansion packs that was offered by the sims, where as your sims would go to college, attend classes, receive diplomas, experience moving/living in dormitories, graduating, having part time jobs, etc. .

    I think it would be much better if this particular expansion pack could have (1) a selection of multiplayer so, that you and your friends could be together and experience the game together. (2) I would like to change is the boundaries of not seeing was going on inside every time a sim, enters a building and would go to class. It would be nice to see what was going on inside in order to monitor your sim is he/she is actually participating in class. (3) Once your sim is already enrolled in college your sim cannot go back home unless, it is required for he/she go to home or if he/she was already a graduate. (which is nice) but it would also be nice if they could have an option to go home once per semester to not lose some of the relationships that they were unable to call due to a tons of homework, part time jobs and being social.

  50. Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core

    Final Fantasy VII is an action role-playing game developed and published by Square Enix for the PlayStation Portable in which the player controls a character named Zack Fair. The game tells the tale of Zack's battle against the villainous SOLDIER defector, Genesis Rhapsodos, and the other products of the Jenova Project.
    Now if I were to change some of its gameplay, I would do the following:

    I’d change the player from being solo and make it tag instead. In every encounter with a new character, for example, Zack meets Cloud, you would be able to control Cloud by switching characters and use his skills different from Zack’s.
    As for the rules of the game, I would not mess with the rules much since I like it the way it is.
    Also, healing potions in FFVII are gained through killing enemies either on the main story or on missions. But I’d want to add something and mix it up. There should be stores where you could buy different kinds of potions either for AP or HP and killing enemies would just give you money or some special item. That way, it’ll be somewhat similar to MMORPG or online games.

    "You are a cat. Swat stuff onto the floor. 2 minute time limit. Get 100,000 points."

    Although it's still in it's ALPHA phase, i think it's a very fun game and time waster.

    Things I want to change:

    obviously, being a cat absolutely limits you on what to do instead of just swatting stuff on to the floor. The thing I'd like to add is mice. Sure you can swat stuff on to the floor and get 100,00 points, psssh big deal. But what if you surprise your owner with a dead mouse in the middle of all that mess? You can swat it to the side and bite it to kill it and pick it up. You can either hide it or present it proudfully to your master! And since there aren't anything such as a bite option already in-game, why not add it? Let's say that you can only use this option when you find a mouse, and when you use it on inanimate objects, you can claw them to pieces. What would be MORE fun is when it becomes a multiplayer, with all the other cats destroying the stuff before you do.

  54. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty

    Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty is an action-adventure stealth game. I played this game, it was
    an awesome game with its graphics and plot. I would change the following
    formal elements so that this game will be really awesome to play all over again"

    Conflict: In beginning of the game Snake, Raiden or the player of the game doesn't own
    weapons in killing opponent, only gadgets. They can use and steal weapons from their opponents.

    Objective: Still, completing the story and defeat the bosses, opponents and the Sons of Liberty without being seen.

    Rules: If killing an opponent, the player should not be seen by the opponent. If seen, the game is over. (It's like Assassin's Creed missions huh)

    Crash Bandicoot is platform game published by Sony Computer Entertainment and developed by Naughty Dog, in which you control Crash who must traverse in the three islands in the game to defeat Doctor Neo and save his girlfriend Tawna.


    Resources: I would like to add how the Witch Doctor's mask use. Crash can use the mask as shield for 5 times.

    Rules: Crash can double jump because originally Crash can only jump once.

    Objective: Killing the boss every stage gives Crash a power-up

  57. Harry Potter: Chamber of Secrets

    I choose Harry Potter because this is one of the first games that I played on the play station. Now, how can I change and play around with the formal elements? I'll make it simple yet with a twist.

    PLAYERS

    First, when it comes to the players most of the time it would only be Harry Potter. You can also have the chance to use Hermione or Ron but not have two players at the same time. What I could change is have Harry Potter and Hermione or Ron as a tag team. If one is tired or runs out of life the other player can save Harry. Another one is they can tag team with fellow Gryffindor or even with the different Hogwart houses.

    OBJECTIVE

    The objective of Chamber of Secrets is that it has certain challenges specified in the book, like going through the Forbidden Forest to collect ingredients for a potion. One must go through combating bosses, learning to ride the broom and mastering different spells. I'm already satisfied with the different challenges in Harry Potter that's why I can't say that I would like to remove or add any into the game.

    BOUNDARIES

    Boundaries of the game would just be within Hogwarts and the forest or premises surrounding it. Going beyond it would be difficult already, it would make the game longer and the other Harry Potter games like Prisoner of Azkaban wouldn't have any settings left to use. Thus, would break the uniqueness of every game sequel.

    RESOURCES

    Maybe what I can add on to it is when it comes to the resources is that every time you successfully complete the said challenge the character will get a reward. May it be another potion, another wand or even a different attire just to put a different essence to the game.

    OUTCOME

    One can be declared a winner when Harry Potter or your character finishes the challenge and comes out alive or perhaps if you completely finish the game. One can be declared the loser if you get defeated within the challenge you are tackling.

    CONFLICT

    When it comes to the conflict I don't think I would add anything into the game. Harry Potter games is already complex at it is adding more into it would make the game harder to play and may end into losing the interest of the player.

    Players: Players could either play alone or co-op.

    Rules: Mario should not be detected by the enemies.

    Boundaries: Mario could only kill his enemies by laying a trap.

    Resources: Question mark blocks would contain certain types of traps. Mario will use this traps to kill the enemies. The things is, the question mark blocks are a one time deal only. If the trap is used improperly, the action cannot be undone unless the game is restarted from the checkpoint. If he is unable to kill the enemy; he could either restart from checkpoint or look for a different way to get past them.

    This type of mechanics would probably make the game more tactical.

  59. I don't know a lot of games and from the variety of games that I have played, I don't have anything in mind to change yet.

    But I would definitely want to change something in Flappy Bird.

    As infuriatingly addictive that game is, it's still a nice game with quite an interesting marketing strategy. So, for it to be more interesting and not just annoyingly fun to the players, I'd add or change one little thing in it.

    - Even though you hit the tubes, there should be an option whether you want to continue, but you can only do this three times. It's like a life - you can continue from your score when you hit a tube, or you may choose to end your game and see your final score.

    - The gap of the tubes should be bigger when you first started, and as you go on, the gap slowly closes in each other. It's like having a handicap in the game. In addition to that, the bird could go faster and become unstable far in the game.

    - I would also like it if it has a secret passage or something that you could discover and that would lead to another level or something with special prizes or just another background change with a different obstacle other than the generic green tubes.

    I would be glad to play that game because I don't think it would be as infuriating.

    Flappy Bird

    What if I add another rule in flappy bird, whenever you reach the 30th of your points, you get 1 life? The maximum life points that you can gather is only once of course. Well, the score system will be easier since you get to revive yourself even once. Also, what if it would be a multiplayer game... up to 4 players? Well I think it will be more confusing and also engaging since you get to compete with other people and you'll get distracted with other players. The game would be fun since you and your friends get to play with each other and it will also be annoying as hell since your concentration might be affected with the people you play with! :D

    Minecraft, yes it's obviously a crafting game with a twist of surviving like a human using materials you can gather to build shelter and tools,and ingredients satisfy your players character.

    If I were to remove the crafting procedure in survival mode, It would definitely change the whole experience of the game, even the title itself because you are not crafting anything in the game XD. what will happen is you'll only roam around and chat with others. :)) I'd say it will turn into a game like The Sims. Wherein you'll start in creative mode to make your shelter then switch to survival mode and live inside the house you created. and run from the zombies everynight LOL! XD


    I think to improve this game, I'd put a zombie mode in the whole survival mode. Same as The Call of Duty's Zombie mode or Nazi Zombies, wherein you must kill zombies and creepers at night and earn cash then on daytime, you have to upgrade your base, choose guns you prefer. I don't know, just thought of playing Zombie mode in 8-bit settings would be funny and parents would encourage their little kids to play it since the zombies aren't that really creepy looking and bloody. LOL XD

Using the game Virtual Villagers, I would make it so that the villagers have to go through the four seasons, winter, summer, autumn and spring, as part of their survival on the island (It could be a magical island that has all the four seasons). Adding this would mean that resources would either become limited or abundant depending on the season. For example, during winter, it would be very rare to find crops growing. However they can choose to hunt for food in the jungle. During summer, only certain crops can be planted and fishing will be at its best. This also means that the villagers will need to have researched on clothing before the first winter comes, otherwise many will die from the cold. Furthermore, jobs will depend on what is needed and/or what gets affected by the seasons. Like, villagers can farm crops during summer, autumn and spring, but during winter they go hunting instead.
    I actually think that if they decided to do this, it will make the game more challenging. This game can get boring after you have played it for some time, so I think this could be an improvement.

    SIMS 3

    OBJECTIVE: The basic objective of the sims is to click and decide what action your sim will do next. You do not have an end goal in this game, so there are no winners or losers. All you have to do is - play. Although this is one of the best features of the game because of the complete control given, it can also be one of the worst. After you feel like you've done everything you can (assuming you do not have expansion packs for extra activities or much imagination to think of something else to do), you will feel completely bored and just quit the game. If I were to change the game up, I would place a specific task or tasks for sims to achieve for the day. The objective is to actually achieve this certain task or goal to get a benefit for the player. It does not relinquish the main goal of allowing the player to have freedom to do anything they want because it simply gives the player more motivation to play. You do not get bored as quickly or at all because you know that you have a goal to achieve, whether or not it is an easy or difficult task.

    PROCEDURE: The Sims 3 is a somewhat make believe game which has already developed that even as you leave the game, your sims still progress and continues to age even without your control. The game is almost realistic except for the fact that probably the only thing missing is the ability to actually control the sims in a first person kind of view. Although it is entertaining to see everything and control everything as a 3rd person player, wouldn't it be nice if there was an option to control your sim in 1st person. You would get a better feel of the 'complete control over your sim' feeling if you were in their shoes. It wouldn't be a click and make a decision game but something similar to Far Cry or Assassin's Creed probably.

    BOUNDARIES: One of the complains I usually hear in The Sims is not being able to enter establishments. In the past, the sims needed to take a taxi or car just to go to their neighbor's house. The loading screen would pop up and they would find themselves in their neighbors house or the establishment they wanted to go to. They have already improved this issue in The Sims 3 by giving the player the ability to make the sim actually walk on the street going to your neighbors house as if it were real. If I were to make a change in the game, I would add the ability to go into the commercial establishments itself - rather than just the residential establishments. It would give the player a better feel of really being in the game and exploring more of the neighborhood. This would also be better for players who make stories using The Sims because I've noticed that some players make their own 'make believe' groceries, libraries, and etc. just so they could use it for their stories.

    CONFLICT: The Sims 3 gives you complete control. This is a good and bad thing. The game is somehow trying to mimic life, and also giving the players the ability to control the sims life. Other players actually make believe that they are their sim and they build the life that they want to build outside of the real world. If I were to change the game up, I would place more conflict. It wouldn't be real life if there weren't real life events. In the Sims, you wouldn't get fired unless you do something wrong. Why not have the game trigger events like the boss suddenly firing you from your job, just because he is that kind of guy. There could also be events such as getting a call from the police that you have a long lost sibling and they suddenly come into your life. These random events give the feeling of unexpected events that actually happen in real life. It would also keep the player on their feet and give their story more life or color.

    Players: 1 player in Story mode. (experiment: maximum of 4 players in multiplayer)

    Rules: same as the game, but this time there are items that are scattered through out the world that would benefit the players' avatars. And instead of the main protagonist being the playable character, they would use their customized avatars in Story mode and Multiplayer.

    Resources: These items are costumes, Healing/buff items, weapons and equipments for a player's avatar.

    Outcome: Since the conflict would still be the same, and the story mode will be finished, after the actual ingame quest the players are able to do the new missions and alternate stories. They would continue finding new and more powerful items for their avatar and also more vicious enemies.

    Snakes and Ladders is an ancient Indian board game regarded today as a worldwide classic. It is played between two or more players on a gameboard having numbered, gridded squares. A number of "ladders" and "snakes" are pictured on the board, each connecting two specific board squares. The object of the game is to navigate one's game piece, according to die rolls, from the start (bottom square) to the finish (top square), helped or hindered by ladders and snakes respectively. The historic version had root in morality lessons, where a player's progression up the board represented a life journey complicated by virtues (ladders) and vices (snakes).

    The game is a simple race contest lacking a skill component, and is popular with young children.

    I decided for this assignment to remove all the ladders, but keep all the snakes. That way there will only be possibilities for you to go downwards and no possibilities for you to go upward thus making the game last longer. The rules or basically the entire game itself would still work the same way, just without ladders.

    A mobile - game developed by Kiloo, a private company located at Denmark. It is available on IOS, Android and Windows Phone platforms.

    This game is like the modern version of Temple Run. Temple Run is a an endless running game wherein you must not get caught by the angry monkeys, you must not fall, you must not run over the edge and finally you must not hit your head.

    Subway Surfers is like that but instead of angry monkeys, you are being chased by an angry policeman because you are a youthful hooligan who just tagged(graffiti) the train and the policeman caught you doing that.

    This game also has power-ups to help you get more points and get you more distance. Power -ups such as a pair of sneakers which gives you the ability to jump twice as higher than you normal jump. A jet pack, where you can fly at the same time collect coins up in the air and avoid obstacles on the ground. A coin magnet, where all the coins will just stick to you as you run. And lastly a 2x multiplier, wherein your points will be doubled as normal.

    Subway Surfer is a one person endless-running game wherein if you where get hit by a train, didn't make the jump above the warning fence or roll under the warning fence the game is over and you get to try again.

    I decided to remove all the power -ups. That way the game is still playable but much more difficult and challenging

  69. If I were to change or modify a game, I'd pick the game entitled "Bandmaster"
    This game is an online game and it is a player vs player game. You can choose whether you want a team mode or single mode.

    So to revise this game, since this is an online game, I'd like to make it different by adding an offline mode in which you can still play even without the other players. It would be a player vs system game or it can be also called as a practice mode.
    To play this game, you need to press "A, S, D, J, K, L, spacebar". Those keys are based on what song you would choose to play. There are lots of songs and you can choose your musical instrument to use. In that segment, there's nothing I like to change because it was a good idea to let the player choose what instrument to use. But whenever you're on online mode, you'll have to talk or chat with other players and that what makes an online game fun.

    In this game, you cannot talk to a person unless you have a thick face to approach them. Lol. But seriously, in this game, almost all of the players tend to just play and play not to socialize with other players. I want to change that kind of atmosphere by building a server that you would actually interact with other players. Instead of placing a small chatbox at the upper part of the screen, I'll make the chatbox bigger than it was so it will be a noticable chatbox. There will be segments in which the players can make a band (well actually they can and they can name their own band name) but what I'm referring to is you can build your own stuido and practice playing songs together. It's like it's going to be a merged game of Bandmaster and The sims in where you can interact with other players like that.

    About the limits of this game, you cannot play the things that I was explaining a while ago because you that server will only occur if you're online. For offline mode users, they can play but they cannot interact with people. So I think I prefer offline mode to players that are not playing often and for players who were intrapersonal. lol. The conlifct of the game is to press all the right keys in order for you to success each game that you'll play. Because if you'll fail, your life bar would end up to 0 and that what makes you a burden to your band. Since your life bar would end, I'd like to let the player decide who to save or revive while playing in the band. And, another thing I want to set in this game is a before starting the game, the player can choose what genre of song or type of song he or she will play. For example, you want OMP songs to be played, you'll just use OPM. If you want KPOP, well you can choose kpop. and there must be also a customized in which you can create a playlist of the songs you like to play.

    The player can't steal cars or anything. They would have to work in order to earn money. They also have to follow the speed limit, no beating the red and car racing. If they broke any rules and regulation they would be jailed and pay the fine. And also they can't kill any random citizen. The player must act like normal citizen too.
    He also needs license for the driving and carrying weapons.
    And once he died it's game over, no revivification .

  72. As for this essay, I'll be using Alice Mare.

    The game itself is storybased and more character-driven with some puzzles and riddles to solve. Even if it is quite good on its own, I'd like to add just two things for the game.

    -The main character, Allen, is an amnesiac. Throughout the game, you'll only reveal his story when you come through a special area. For this, I'd like to have a sidestory or path where the player can find what is his past all about. I prefer it this way since the game has a way wherein that ever one of characters' past, save for Allen, has vague and subtle hints. But in the special extra, it was revealed in a rather blunt yet vague way that doesn't appeal to me much.

    -That interactions can manipulate certain endings. I notice the interaction doesn't change much of the story and is only an extra, so I'd like to add a system wherein the player can gain friendship points for a character. Thus, giving endings a particular twists for players with an affinity for certain characters in the game.

    ill revise the game play like putting more Miracle fruits with labeled sizes or energy. Instead selecting 3 human players ill change it to 2 human players only. Each digimon has three of 5 attributes (neutral, data, vaccine, virus, and unidentified) as well as their attacks having five of 10 elements (fire, water, ice, wind, earth, wood, iron, thunder, darkness, light). Knowing the advantages and disadvantages of each attribute and element is vital to obtaining victory in any battle. and allow it to android and have a battle via Bluetooth

    Players: 1

    Objectives: to gain experience to level up, accomplish the main quest an/or side quests, to defeat the final boss and complete 100% of the unlockables

    Procedures: the original concept of most RPG is to have a character or group of the protagonist to defeat the storyline or quests, obtain powerful weapons by collecting materials.

    ---the changes:
    A. I want to made the game to the point of view of the antagonist or the villains. The gameplay is that as the "Boss" the player must research evil monster and dispatch them to fight the protagonist. It is like making a "world editor" where the player puts monsters in the map where it will challenge the protagonists. The player gains experience to research more powerful monsters and eventually train powerful bosses.

    B. another way to play this aroundthis RPG is that the game will be played by players not playing it. the basic gameplay is that the player can just check the status of his/her character but the player cannot control the character. The player can only monitor the progress of its character by the notes written by the character. The game is like reading the journal or diary of your hero.

    For example of possible:
    07:00 Character1: I am now waiting for my party members to respawn
    07:19 Character1: Just reached level 7 and I do not know what to do.
    08:32 Character1: Two wolves attacked me
    08:33 Character1: Used Power Slash Skill
    08:33 Character1: No more mana, I decide to run!
    13:54 Character1: Stop running I hope the wolves do not follow me
    14:09 Character1: Reach a new town called "Eternalliapolis"

    Rules: Most RPG uses the Turn based system or Real time Strategy. Players will have enough time to input their commands and the characters will follow whatever the command is.

    --in my game, just like what I have said above the game is played with the perspective of the villain of the game and make the journey of the protagonists hard before reaching the villains castle.

    the another concept is to observe or to monitor the adventure of your characters without any control. The character will have its own freewill to do whatever he/she wants without the player controlling the character's development and choice of what to do.

    Resources: RPG can be linear, save points and treasure chests were scattered all over the map and includes healing items and weapons at the disposal of the player. In game currencies are also available after killing monsters or by completing quests.

    as the overlord of my concept game, resources can be acquired by sending evil monsters and there is automatic gain of gold or in game currency. The main gameplay is how to manage the given resources at the start of the stage and how to deploy monsters in the battlefield.

    in the other game, resources is available to the character in his/her fantasy world, without the control of players it is up to the character if he or she wants to do quest or do whatever suits the character.

    Outcome/Conflict: The ending of all RPG is to defeat the final boss, in my game, the game ends when the overlord killed the entire team of the protagonist before reaching the boss. It is how to manage the deployment of monsters to defeat the characters.

    In the other game, i think its up to the player to have the patience on how long they can monitor the progress of their character which they cannot control.

    These is how I play with the different formal elements of a RPG game mostly made by Japanese Studios that uses traditional RPG gameplays. Adding some or alterring some gameplays can help make a new concepts or perspective in how to play RPG games in the future

  77. Patapon sir! :D would like to see if that game could have 4players and instead of using only the buttons you should also use the arrow keys for the songs. They could battle each other and they could creat all sorts of music while battling, and there will be a limit in using the minions they are suppose to use. Also if i could change it i would add more types of attack using the arrow keys and buttons.. They can also make their own sound base on the attacks they want to use. The'll have to fix it in the option box of course, and they can also carry different items that.

    Tetris Battle is an online game on Facebook. It is a multiplayer game. You can invite opponents from Facebook also, it can be from your Facebook friends and even random people from Facebook. So the main goal of the game is to defeat your opponent by sending them lots of "lines". What do I mean by lines? It is when you clear a certain row of bricks. There will be a certain types of brick that will be given to you, and the only thing you need to do, is to fit it unto the bricks that you have already. So when you match it perfectly, the row of bricks will disappear and that's the time, the computer system will send "lines" to your opponent. This game is a time limit, in 1 game.. You need to defeat your opponent in just 2 mins. There will be also power ups that will probably help you to defeat your opponent/s. And for you to be able to play this game, you must have atleast 5 energy (out of 20).

    If I'm going to change some of the rules in this game, I would say.. you don't need anymore an energy to play this game or at least you must use you 3 energy out of 20. So that you can have more games to play. Because, based from my experience.. when I'm out of energy and I still want to play, I get annoyed because I can't play anymore. I need to ask for my Facebook friends some energy, and I think it's quite a disturbance to them. So yea, when 3 energies are needed, at least you can play more.

    So the outcome will be, Tetris is much enjoyable than before. It will be also a bit easier than before.

  79. Flappy Bird

    If flappy bird would have stages, like in the first stage, the gap between pipes is very big that the bird can easily pass through it. Then as you pass through more levels, the gaps between the pipes would be like smaller and smaller. But it would be more fun if they'll have lives and can collect more lives as they pass through levels.

    I think it would be more fun if it will be this way.

  80. Iron pants.

    I want to change the difficulty of iron pants. It is so hard in the very start. I actually deleted that app in my phone immediately after trying. They should have put stages of levels that in the first one it is easy until it gets harder and harder so and in the end, the player will not get frustrated because he/she can't get through out in one pipe.

  81. Flappy Bird

    If I were to modify flappy bird, I will make it more faster as the player reach certain points. Every 50 pts the bird will slow down so the player won't get tired tapping their device. it I will also change the medals every 10 pts. I will also change the medals every 10 pts. I will also make a bonus round where a player will play with time limit then if he finished it he will get one bonus life.

  82. Temple Run

    re-modifying temple run to me would mean removing the skull monkeys to chase after you. instead you have to finish the temple and it would also mean you have different temple levels. also i would like to add that there will be certain obstacles aside from the barriers.
