week 1.2 review: Formal Elements of a Game

ABMA 122 peoples, leave your homework post here: pick a game, list out its formal elements.

A recap of the Formal Elements of a game discussed this jan 17/18: (a little game: try to guess which of the following examples refer to which games)

Players: How many people are playing? what's their interaction with each other?
Is it player vs player? team vs team? solo player vs team? many players vs each other? player vs system (aka single-player)? many players (not a team) vs system? team vs system?

Objective: What's the very action that you do to win the game?
Kill or tag the other player? Outrace the other player? Claim the entire board space as your own? score the most points? rescue the princess? erase the board of all the jewels on it? just stay alive for as long as possible? capture the flag? destroy the enemy's base?

Procedure: how do I go about getting to my objective? what is the primary action or actions that I can do in the game?
Do I run past the other player or tag them? Do I use letters to form words and score points? Do we take turns to roll a dice and move a number of spaces according to the dice result? Do I press the D-Pad to walk and mash buttons to attack or do special moves? Do I tilt the phone and swipe the screen to move out of harm's way?

Rules: The many other specific guidelines that must be followed for the game to work. Comes in 3 flavors:
Rules about objects and terms. Specify what the objects and terms used in the game are, and how they're used.
Who/what is the team 1 player? Who/what is the team 2 player? who/what is that mushroom/flower/odd walking mushroom with teeth? what are these little squares with letters and a small number on them? what does "check" mean? What is the "flag"? what is a "critical hit"?
Rules about restrictions. Specify what CAN be done and what CANNOT be done under which conditions.
Can I break bricks or shoot fireballs? Can I ask for two cards from the other player instead of one? can I lay down a red 9 if the last card played was a blue 6? can I use shotgun shells with the sniper rifle? can I use the str-99 weapon if i only have 98 str? can I cast the BB1 spell using BBR? Can I use the last player's short word to build a longer word? can I backtrack? the team 1 players may run anywhere, but each team 2 player blocking them may only move on a horizontal line.
Rules about effects: If 2 objects or rules interact with each other, what will be the result?
If I jump and land on the odd mushroom with teeth, the mushroom is smooshed. If a punch lands on the arm, there is a chance that the arm is crippled. If a player is successfully tagged, he becomes the new "it". If player 1 makes the ball's first bounce outside the border, player 2 gets a point.

Boundaries: The borders of the game, within which the game happens.
The agreed-upon playground space. The game board. This 52-card deck. Wuhu Island.

Resources: Anything in the game that is very useful or mandatory for a player to win the game, but is limited (can only be used a set number of times or for a limited amount of time) or hard to find, claim, or use, or all of the above.
100 coins = extra life. Extra lives. Hit Points The gold that can be earned from last hits to buy stat-boost armor. Guns, Ammo, Bombs. The 5 minutes that you may wander in peace before That Thing starts aggressively chasing you. The full-house combination in your current hand. A 2 of diamonds. The "triple word score" tiles on the board, the many 1-point "e" tiles, and the lone 10-point "z" tile. The broken wall to hide behind. Multiple team 1 players to help in distracting the current team 2 player. The power meter needed to unleash The HUEG-ASS Hyperbeam move. Your one move for this turn. The Red Lightning of Doom that has a cooldown of 150 seconds. The timer, and powerups that extend it.

Outcome: The point in the game when someone can be declared the winner or the loser. Comes in 2 flavors:
Zero-sum game: When there is a very specific "1 wins, 1 loses, game ends" outcome.
Checkmate. Your Ancient is destroyed. Your Hit points are zero, KO! Time is up, and you're still alive. Ride the flagpole at the end of the stage. Check who has the most points when the tiles are all used up.
Not zero-sum: The win conditions are a bit more flexible or non-specific, and not necessarily the end of the game proper. Often enforced by the player himself rather than the game.
Amass $9,999,999 by turn 6/16. Speedruns. To be the proud owner of the Legendary Spiked Pauldrons of Badassery. To build an exact replica of ninoy aquino's face using trees.

Conflict: Anything in the game (rules, resources, boundaries, etc) that is set up specifically to STOP the player from winning, or give him a hard time. Comes in 2 flavors:
Obstacles and Opponents: Obstacles are there specifically to get in your way or enforce a loss if left alone; Opponents are either also chasing after the same win condition as you are, or have a win condition that is directly opposite to your own; often also allowed to interfere in your efforts like obstacles do.
The other players or team. The army of mooks and their boss. The timer in the upper-right corner. That (player-controlled) Thing that wants to eat you. The alarmed car sitting right in the middle of the firefight that will summon more enemies if it is hit.
Dilemmas: Anytime that, thanks to the ways that the rules, resources, etc. interact, a tough decision must be made, where none of the answers are an obvious right answer (all have their advantages AND disadvantages).
Should I chase after that (rolling into imminent unknown danger) powerup? which gun should I pick up? shall I play my full-house now, or save it for later? which of my 3 enemies should I ally with for now, which should I attack?

  1. Fruit Pop! (a phone game compatible for android & ios)

    Formal Elements

    Player/s: Single player
Objective: Pop as many fruits as you can within the given time limit.
Procedure: Find a chain of a certain fruit, then slide your fingers on the fruits to pop them. The longer the chain, the higher the score.
Rules: You cannot pop the fruits that aren't adjacent to each other (because that wouldn't be a chain anymore lol)
    5. Boundaries: The minimum quantity of fruits to be popped is 3, and there's no maximum.
    6. Resources: Bombs! There are four kinds of bombs. The horizontal, vertical, cross, and the normal bomb. The horizontal bomb can pop all the fruits within it's horizontal row, and the same goes for the vertical one. The cross bomb is a combination of the vertical & the horizontal bomb. The normal bomb pops the fruits around the bomb itself.
    7. Outcome: Not zero-sum. No one's a loser in this game (unless you want to beat someone's high score (or your own score) but sadly, you can't) Once you're done, three coconuts would show up. You have to pick one, and if you're lucky, you may have a free bomb or a bonus life. Aaand if you're not, then you get nothing lol. If you have a score of 500,000+, you get the chance to open 2 coconuts.
    8. Conflict: There are 4 conflicts in this game. First, the time limit. 1 minute per round. Second, the life meter. You can only play this game for 5 times, and when you're done, you have to wait for a few minutes to refill your life meter. Third, the patterns of the fruits. Figuring out the fruit's pattern is the essence of the game (and it's also the conflict because sometimes it's really hard to see the patterns/chains of fruits, especially if it's just a 3-fruit-chain) And fourth (this doesn't apply to everyone), the laggy-ness of your smart phone/iPhone (well, only if you have a laggy phone) because the game freezes and crashes sometimes.

  2. Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja 5 / Naruto Shippuden Accel 2
    ( 3rd person fighting game, platform(s): Playstation 2 )
    Formal Elements:
Players: The game can be played with either Single player mode and Versus mode. In Versus mode the player can either play against another player or against a cpu controlled character.

Objectives: The objectives of the game is mainly to beat the crap out of your opponent and win the match unless you are in story mode which involves a lot of puzzles and riddles in which you have to solve in order to advance in the story line.

Procedure: The main thing you have to do to win is to reduce the life gauge or the HP of your opponent, you must continuously attack your opponent in order to reduce his/her HP to zero. There are also some combos you can use which can deal a lot more damage compared to normal attacks and there is also a finishing / final attack for every character which can easily reduce your opponents HP to half or less than half of the max HP.

Rules: You can only use Jutsus/combos if you have sufficient chakra to activate them, you cannot use a skill which requires a full chakra bar when only 1/3 of it is full. Weapons like seal tags and the demon wind shuriken can only be used when you and your opponent are on the same side of the field.

Boundaries: You are only limited to the stage you chose. You cannot transfer to any other stages.

Resources: You can find random weapons hidden within a stage when they glow white, by breaking these with an attack you can obtain from HP recover Items to bombs. These items can only be used once unless you get another one of the same kind. The only exception to this is the default throwing weapon that is equipped to your chosen character, this weapon is unlimited.

Outcome: The outcome is a Zero-sum game, 1 winner 1 loser.

Conflict: The main conflict in this game is with your opponent, both players want to win but there can only be one winner unless you somehow make a draw, which is pretty rare in fighting games. In the story mode there are hidden traps scattered all over the map and these traps reduce your HP.

  3. Left 4 Dead 1&2

Players: it can be a single player game, if you want to play as a particular survivor, when I play single player I always pick Rochelle because she's amazing, I love that sassiness, it can also be a co-op game, you can invite friends over or get into a random game online and play as a vacant survivor it's up to 4 players, it can be a team vs team even if there are only two players, one of you can be a survivor and one can be a special infected, there are still the mandatory the three survivors and there will always be AI to help out both the special infected and the lone player survivor, so multiplayer is always enjoyed with 8 players!

Goal/Objective: If you're playing it as a singleplayer game or a cooperative game, you r goal is to reach each safehouse until you get the the last part when you escape the area, if your survivors escaped the area then it's the end of the map, but as a team vs team game it becomes a point based game.

Procedures: as a singleplayer or co-op game you have to kill zombies if you want to get the next safehouse faster, their punches slow you down and may drain your life gauge, you have to avoid dying so you can get to the safe house. as a team vs team game,as a survivor you don't need to get into the safehouse, the only thing you need is to try to reach the safehouse as close as possible and the distance you get get turned into points, as a special infected you have to kill the survivors as quickly as possible but if the survivors before beat reached farther than you when you were the survivor they beat you.

Rules: when playing as a survivor you can only have two weapons a main gun and a secondary gun/melee weapon, one adrenaline item, grenade type and one health kit type, you can only hold one explosive objects. when playing as a special infected, the game randomly chooses what infected type you become.

Boundaries: as a survivor your ammunition is limited, you can die but be revived when you reach the safe house, some places may seem jumpable, but the invisible walls of video game logic have told Left 4 Dead dev teams to not players go where they choose. the special infected however can climb buildings! only if there's an icon of a paw on the wall.

Resources: The survivor's resources are their bullets,Their guns/melee weapons, their items, they can be replaced or replenished in random sections of each area but they most guaranteed area when they can do that is in a safe house, their health bar is also an important resource.the special infected's resources are their skill timer, these skills vary from one special infected to another and there are cool down time for that which also is affected on what type of special infected they are, their life gauge also counts as a resource as well, though playing as tank can be different, their life gauge is limited to time.

Outcome: It's a zero sum type game but these conditions determine which one loses or wins:

when you reach the escape point of the map as a survivor in singleplayer or co-op

when playing this team vs team when the other player has reached the farthest if they played as a survivor.

Conflict: The game is interesting because of the conflicts that you get and oh boy there are a lot! I shall enumerate them:
-Ran out of bullets! and there are so many zombies! and I see no melee weapon on site!
-Which gun should I choose? the automatic shotgun or the assault rifle?
-which medicine should I get? the pills or the adrenaline boost!?
-which grenade should I use? the pipe bomb or molotov cocktail!?
-My friend is down! should I attempt to revive him now!?

there are more things to feel conflicted about and it get's gradually worse as you play the game online, but nonetheless it's still a fun game even with those annoyances.

Single player. You can't choose which character you are. You'll automatically be "Makato Naegi" known as the Ultimate Lucky Student.

    Objectives:
to uncover all mysteries and figure out who is the mastermind.
to get out of Hope's Peak Academy.

    Procedures:
    investigate the crime scene
put together the hints/clues to know who the culprit is
get past every class trial so that you'd be able to get closer to unveiling the truth.

    Rules:
    Objects/Terms
Class Trial- it is where you'll debate with your classmates who the culprit is.
Ammunition- bullets that has right and wrong statements in it. Used to pinpoint other's incorrect statements.
    Monokuma- the mastermind's animatronic avatar

    Restrictions
At first, only the first floor of the academy's building is available but as every class trial passes, another floor opens.
Some rooms are locked unless Monokuma decides to open them.
There are iron plates in the main door and on every window that's why you cannot see anything from the outside simply because the mastermind trapped everyone.

    Effects
If you aren't able to solve the mysteries of the crime done, then it's game over. You will be executed together with the other characters and the culprit would get away unscathed.

    Boundaries:
    Hope's Peak Academy.

    Resources:
During the class trial, every correct thing you say about the crime would add 1/4 on your life. And in every wrong statement (which is referred to as Ammunition), would deduct also 1/4 on it.

    Outcome:
Zero-sum game. You'll be executed when you aren't able to unveil the crimes. You win whenever you get passed every class trial and pinpoint the true culprit. If you finish the game, you'll know who the mastermind behind Monokuma is and his/her reasons why she did this and that. You'll be able to open the main gate and escape the academy's building.

    Conflicts:
    Opponents and Obstacles
Time, unclear statements given by other characters to mislead you in solving crimes, and the analog controller. There's also the Non-stop Debate, Epiphany Anagram, Machinegun Talk Battle, Influence and Concentration Gauge which are all related to every crimes and is done on every class trial.

    Dilemmas
Who should I condemn as the culprit?
Which hints from the scene of the crime would strengthen my statement so that everyone would believe me?
Which ammunition to use to point other's wrong statement?

  8. Counter Strike

    (PART 1)

PLAYERS: Counter Strike can be played in all of the following:

    - Player vs. player
    - Team vs. team
    - Solo player vs. team
    - Player vs. system
    - Team vs. system

    OBJECTIVE:

For both teams (Terrorists & Counter Terrorists): Eliminate the opposing team

    For Counter Terrorists:
    - Rescuing the hostages
    - Bomb defusing
    - When the time expires, Counter – Terrorists win by default

    For Terrorists:
    - Keeping the hostages alive
    - Planting the bomb
    - When the time expires, Terrorists win by default

PROCEDURE: The player must buy weapons and then finish the game by killing the opposing team.

    W – Forward
    A – Left
    S – Back
    D – Right
    SPACE - Shift
    CTRL/SHIFT - Duck

    LEFT MOUSE CLICK – Fire
RIGHT MOUSE CLICK – Weapon special function
    B – Buy weapon
    R – Reload
    G – Drop weapon
E – ACTION (Rescue hostages, defuse bomb, turn/off switches, etc.)
    F - Flashlight

RULES: The rules of the game depend on the map used by the player.

    - Bomb defusal (de) is a game mode where the main objective for the Counter-Terrorists is to prevent the Terrorists from planting the C4 explosive. Counter-Terrorists can win the round by defusing the bomb, while the Terrorists must plant the bomb at one of two bombsites (usually located near Counter-Terrorist spawn) and ensure detonation of the explosive.
    - Hostage rescue (cs) is a game mode where the main objective for the Counter-Terrorists is to rescue the hostages. Terrorists must prevent them from doing so. Hostage rescue maps are prefixed with "cs". Generally, the hostages are placed near the Terrorist spawn. To rescue the hostages, the Counter-Terrorists must interact with them (by walking up to a hostage and pressing the use key) and lead them to the hostage rescue zone, usually located near the Counter-Terrorist spawn. If all the surviving hostages have been rescued, and that number is at least half of the initial hostage count, the Counter-Terrorists will win, and each Counter-Terrorist is given a monetary reward. The game mode may effectively become a 'terrorist hunt' if all hostages are killed. Killing a hostage by either side usually incurs a large amount of stiff penalty in cash, and will sometimes garner a slaying, kick, or ban from the server. When a Counter-Terrorist begins interacting with the hostages, they will be rewarded a small sum of cash. Upon successfully escorting a hostage to a rescue point, a much greater sum is awarded to the individual Counter-Terrorist.
    - Assassination (as) is a game mode where the main objective for the Counter-Terrorists is to safely escort the VIP to the extraction zone. Terrorists must prevent them from doing so by assassinating them. Assassination maps are prefixed with "as". The VIP has very limited amounts of ammunition, as his KM .45 Tactical has only 12 rounds in reserve, and should not be expected to escape without the team's assistance. However, he has special armor which provides adequate protection (200 points). There are weapons that are restricted for each team. The M3, XM1014, MP5, P90, Scout, SG552, G3SG1 and the M249 cannot be purchased by the Terrorists while the Counter-Terrorists are unable to buy the Scout and AWP.

When a player kills his teammate, it’s called “friendly fire”. Making the player incurs a stiff penalty in cash in the present round and then dies in the next round.

Players can only stay underwater for 11 seconds before they start losing health. Once the 11 seconds have elapsed, every subsequent second spent underwater deducts 5 health points from the player's health, and will continue to do so until the player resurfaces or dies. Once the player resurfaces, for each second they spend above the water, they will regain 10 health points. The 11 second counter resets as soon as the player surfaces from underwater.

    1 kill, 1 point system.

    2. BOUNDARIES: 95% of maps in Counter – Strike have boundaries. You cannot enter all places in a map (eg. doors, small areas, places that a player thinks are passable but not, etc.) Another boundary is when a player uses the cheat sv_gravity and immediately jumps, (sv_gravity makes the the player jump higher) the player cannot reach the top most ceiling of the map, there is an “invisible” wall.

There is also a boundary in weapon selection. Terrorists have different weapon selection to Counter Terrorists, vice versa. On the other hand, Counter – Terrorists are the only team who can buy a defuser kit and shield (Counter – Strike 1.6) while Terrorists cannot.

      RESOURCES:
      - When a player kills the other team, he/she will be rewarded a cash to buy weapons.
      - Weapons
      - A defuser kit makes bomb defusing faster (For Counter –Terrorists use only)
      - When a player dies, the weapons are left with its body making other living players get it. (The higher fire power, the better)
      - When a Counter – Terrorist player rescued the hostages, he will be awarded a huge amount of cash. Also, when a Counter Terrorist player defuses the bomb, it will be 3 points to his score.
      - When a Terrorist player successfully plants the bomb, it will be 3 points to his score.
      - When the player uses a AWP (Arctic Warefare Police)/Magnum Sniper Rifle or AK47, he will be God. The AWP can kill an enemy through its head, chest and arm, and abdomen and pelvis… except for the leg.

OUTCOME: It’s just a win – lose system in Counter – Strike. In addition, when the player exceeds 30 – 45 minutes in a map, the game will automatically change and restarts a new map. The procedure will repeat continuously.

CONFLICT: When a player accidentally falls off the map (glitches), he will die. It also possible for player to get drown, fall from tall heights, crushed by an elevator platform, run over by a vehicle, electrocuted, -- resulting to death.

Another conflict in the game is when a player is playing a bomb defusal map. Usually, in these types of maps there are two bomb sites, a disadvantage for Counter – Terrorists.

  10. Cytus (Android Tablet & Phones)

    Players: Single Player
Objectives: The Objective of this game it to clear all songs in each Chapter. Each Chapter has more than 6 songs. Each Time the 'player count' strikes 100,000 a new chapter will be added.
Procedure: To play this game one must learn how to Tap, Slide or Hold the on-screen musical notes to sync with the music.
Rules: You have to press the musical notes after it has been activated and the bar has passed through it. To know if the musical note has been activated, it is in the colors of both Green & Yellow or Purple & Pink
Boundaries: You must finish one song in order to get a score, if you did not finish a particular song no score will be added or made
Resource: For This game since there are no power-ups or such. It only leads you to combo's. For each time you tab, slide or hold a musical note it records whether you caught it just in time. The higher the combo the higher chances of your score to be duplicated.
Outcome: If the game/song is cleared, it shows you the grade depending on what you're score you may have. You can also see the number of 'perfects','goods','bads' or 'miss''.
Conflict: This game is 400 Mb. For phones or tablet that has many applications used or installed, it might be hard to play this game because, it might give you constant lagging and for the game to force itself to crash or to hang. Another would be the if your 'gadget' is not sensible enough to touch or the speed of your game(or the song) because it tend to confuse you whether which would you go for first and Lastly if your game is not in Full version although, it only may have slight differences. One, you have to wait for 30 secs in order for the game to start and some buttons like the replay do not function so you have to go back to the chapter screen. chose a song and then play again.

  11. HARVEST MOON: HERO OF LEAF VALLEY
    Players: Player vs. System;
Objective: Is to earn 50,000 G at the span of two years to keep the farm and another 100,000 G after 2 years to prove that you can run the farm by yourself.
Procedure: There are various ways to earn the money needed to achieve your objective. You could plant crops, take care of animals, do fishing or mine.

    Rules:
At the start of the game, you'd be given a farm. There would be a barn, a field, and your house where you can sleep. By default, you'd have your tools like the hammer, sickle, hoe, and the watering can. The other tools like the fishing rod, clippers, milker and the like would be achieved once an particular event has been triggered or once bought from the store. The rucksack and storage box inside your house is already there by default where you can store your goods, crops and other things you find. The shipping bin is where you place your crops or any sell-able items in to be sold.

Special events are events that you can trigger when you are at the right place and time. Harvest Moon doesn't just focus on earning money but it also focuses on the friendship levels with the other system characters.

You can use the tools multiple times but you have to watch out for your stamina meter. Each time you use your tools, a certain amount of stamina would be deducted from your stamina meter. Tools such as hoe, sickle, hammer, fishing rod, cannot be used on people and animals, it would either make the loose a heart or two from your friendship level, or worse they could get sick (animals).

You could only plant the crops that are could be planted on that season (if you don't have a greenhouse). You could only milk your cows once per day, get one egg for every chicken you have everyday and sheer the wool of a sheep every six days. You are limited to three chickens in the coop, three cows/sheep altogether in the barn unless you made an expansion. You cannot jump fences, but can break them with an upgraded hammer.

You cannot enter a shop once it is closed for the week or day. You also can't make transactions on festival days, which means everything is closed on festival days.

If plants are watered everyday, they will be successful. But once you forget to water it, even just for one day, the plant will either be delayed in growing or would wither. This also goes for your farm animals, you have to feed them everyday. If you don't they'll get stressed or sick and will not produce any eggs/milk/wool. You also have to clean/bathe your animals everyday except for your chickens. If you enter your farm animals in animal contests and if they win the will produce gold eggs/milk/wool which would sell for more. If animals are left out in the rain/bad weather, they'll get sick. If you don't give them animal medicine right away, they'll die.

Since HM has other characters you could interact with, you can give them gifts. But this limits you to one gift per person everyday. A gift you may give could be liked/hated by that character depending on their preferences. Gifts given have an equivalent FP (Friendship Points) on the character. FPs may affect the heart levels of the townspeople, especially the bachelors and bachelorettes. Once you have your FPs at a certain heart level with a character, you may experience their special events which would give you more FPs. Even better news, you could propose to a bachelor/bachelorette if you have reached their red heart level.

    1. Expansion of your farm is also important if you want to achieve more in the game. If you expand your house, you'd get two beds which means you are eligible to marry; you'd also get a kitchen, a bathroom and more house space. Expanding your farm would give more plots to plant on, more space in your coop/barn which means more animals you can take care of. But expansions are not free. You have to accumulate the money needed and materials (usually lumber/stones )to get expansion done. Expansions usually finishes after three days.

The weather could affect every aspect of the game. Sunny and Cloudy weather are good weather types. Rainy could either be good or bad. Blizzards and storms are bad weather types, either you can't go out of your house; meaning you can't feed your animals but you don't have a choice but skip and go back to sleep, they could also destroy your property especially your greenhouse.

      Boundaries:
      The Map.

      Resources:
Expansions are a really tough job to accomplish since lumber is very hard to acquire and takes a lot of stamina. Plus the money needed for expansions are not cheap. This also speaks for upgrades of tools which require certain stones (moon stones, emeralds, etc) to be upgraded plus the money.

To win the game you have to earn an approximate 150,000 G at the span of 4 years. (50,000 G - First two years, 100,000 G - Next two years) If not your farm will be taken away by the corporate people who had their eyes on it in the first place.

As for the bachelors/bachelorettes, you can marry him/her if: (1)Maximum Heart Level (2)All Expansions achieved. When these are all checked, you can buy the Blue Feather in the store.

      Outcome:
Either you keep the farm (continue on for the next two years)or have to leave it and end the game (First two years) if you don't have 50,000 G. Either you prove yourself or have them all disappointed and change their minds if you don't earn 100,000 G at the 4th year of your stay.

      Conflict:
You don't really have any evil dudes in this game just the corporate firm trying to get your land. Every time they try and get your land, they'll come up with some challenge that you have take and win. If not, it'll be one step ahead of you. They also made the money contract in the first place.

Special events are always a dilemma in this game. Every option you take has a corresponding result/end.

  12. Left4dead 2
PLAYERS: Left4dead 2 (or simply l4d 2) can be played either as a single player, or by 4 players (maximum number of players *not infected*). It can also be played by 8 players, in which the other 4 are the special infected ones. The game can only be played online if you want to connect other PCs in a campaign.
OBJECTIVE: The only objective if this game is to escape from the infected ones and reach every safe house. There are 4 safe houses before you can escape a certain map. If it's a team vs team game, the one with the most points will be declared as the winner.
PROCEDURES: There are a lot of ways to kill zombies, first of course is to use weapons. Whether it is a primary weapon, melee weapon, pipe bombs, Molotov, or even a puke can make zombies away from you. A punch can also work to make the zombies out of your way. The players just need to follow the path to escape. There are many ways in a map but those will take you in only one same place: the safe house.
    RULES:
    - If you are a survivor weapons are given at the start of the game (safe house) which you can get a primary and secondary (melee) weapon, an explosive (molotov, pipe bomb, puke) and a first aid kit (can also be adrenaline shot, or pills).
-You cant use ammo's of other weapons to load a different type of gun.
-You cant kill a witch without her harming you.
-A player can be killed by another player.
    BOUNDARIES:
-All the paths will lead you to only one direction.
-Your ammo is limited as a survivor (unless you got a cheat lol)
RESOURCES: The survivor's resources are their items. Guns, melee weapons, first aid kits, ammunition, which are scattered on the game grounds. If you're playing as the infected, your resource is the skill of every character (AI infected).
OUTCOME: it's a Zero-sum game. because it's only the survivors vs the zombies or vice versa. Winners can be determined through the most scores earned by a player.
CONFLICTS: There are a lot of conflicts in the game of course. Those make the game exciting!
    -When you are far away from your teammates because of a Jockey;
-Or being attacked by a witch (easily sets your health down)
-Running out of ammo in an attack.
-What is the right weapon to use.
    -Dying because of a cliff.
-Too much zombies in front of you (lol)
    -being left by teammates.
Those are just my list of conflicts in the game as a player. Still there are a lot more

  13. CHESS
    Players: Player vs. Player

    Objective: Protect your King piece

Procedure: Each player begins the game with 16 pieces: one king, one queen, two rooks, two knights, two bishops, and eight pawns. Each of the six piece types moves differently. Pieces are used to attack and capture the opponent's pieces, with the objective to 'checkmate' the opponent's king by placing it under an inescapable threat of capture. In addition to checkmate, the game can be won by the voluntary resignation of the opponent, which typically occurs when too much material is lost, or if checkmate appears unavoidable. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chess)

Rules: Check means your King piece is unable to move or cannot attack another piece(s) because it is trapped. PIECES: The King can only move one square in any direction. The king has also a special move which is called castling and involves also moving a rook. The Rook can move any number of squares along any rank or file, but may not leap over other pieces. Along with the king, the rook is involved during the king's castling move. The Bishop can move any number of squares diagonally, but may not leap over other pieces. The Queen combines the power of the rook and bishop and can move any number of squares along rank, file, or diagonal, but it may not leap over other pieces. The Knight moves to any of the closest squares that are not on the same rank, file, or diagonal, thus the move forms an "L"-shape: two squares vertically and one square horizontally, or two squares horizontally and one square vertically. The knight is the only piece that can leap over other pieces. The Pawn may move forward to the unoccupied square immediately in front of it on the same file, or on its first move it may advance two squares along the same file provided both squares are unoccupied; or the pawn may capture an opponent's piece on a square diagonally in front of it on an adjacent file, by moving to that square. The pawn has two special moves: the en passant capture and pawn promotion.

Boundaries: The game board. You cannot invent a move for a piece.

Resources: Special Moves: (A) Castling consists of moving the king two squares along the first rank toward a rook and then placing the rook on the last square the king has just crossed. Castling is permissible only if all the following conditions hold: (1) Neither of the pieces involved in castling may have been previously moved during the game. (2) There must be no pieces between the king and the rook. (3) The king may not be in check, nor may the king pass through squares that are under attack by enemy pieces, nor move to a square where it is in check. (B) When a pawn advances two squares from its starting position and there is an opponent's pawn on an adjacent file next to its destination square, then the opponent's pawn can capture it en passant (in passing), and move to the square the pawn passed over. However, this can only be done on the very next move, otherwise the right to do so is forfeit. (C) Promotion. When a pawn advances to the eighth rank, as a part of the move it is promoted and must be exchanged for the player's choice of queen, rook, bishop, or knight of the same color. Usually, the pawn is chosen to be promoted to a queen, but in some cases another piece is chosen; this is called under promotion. There is no restriction placed on the piece that is chosen on promotion, so it is possible to have more pieces of the same type than at the start of the game (for example, two queens). (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chess)

Outcome: Zero-sum game: 1 wins, 1 loses, game ends outcome. Checkmate.
Conflict: You cannot undo and redo your move. Once you have already moved it, you cannot touch it again. You should wait for your turn again. You should make a wise move or otherwise, you’ll end up losing.

  14. Tekken 6

Players: The game is available for single player or versus mode on either another player or the CPU.

Objectives: to defeat your enemy within the time limit and to unlock all character’s endings.

Procedures: Press the buttons on your controller to exchange blows with your opponent. There are 2 rounds given to decide who the winner is. (Though the number of rounds could be changed in the options menu)

    Rules:
Rage- giving characters more damage per hit when their vitality is below a certain point
Bound- Every character has several moves that, when used on an opponent that is currently midair in a juggle combo, will cause the opponent to be smashed hard into the ground, bouncing them off the floor in a stunned state and leaving them vulnerable to another combo or additional attack. As of the Bloodline Rebellion update, successfully parrying a low attack will also put a character into a bound state.

At some stages, there are box-designed places that have very limited space wherein one can corner and kill you instantly. Sometimes, the ground is also destroyed and an underground place will be your stage. If you aren't able overpower your opponent, you lose the game and the other player would win.

    Boundaries:
You are only allowed to play within the stage that you chose.

    Resources:
After every game, there are rewards such as the ranking and the coins which are used to customize a certain character and unlock items. Addition to your life gauge during a battle is not applicable in this game.

    Outcome:
In Arcade mode, you shall defeat everyone until you reach Jin Kazama, Nancy (bonus stage), and Azazel for the final stage. After you defeat Azazel, there will be a clip wherein you’ll know the ending for the certain character that you used.

    Conflicts:
The opponent, attack combinations, time limit, and limited type of stage.

    Dilemmas:
    Which character should I use?
Which character has the greatest cut on the life gauge?
Which character/s has a great attack combination (combo)?

  15. Candy Crush Saga Dream world Expansion (compatible with android and ios)

    Player: Single Player

Objectives: Objectives vary from one level to another. Some task players to score X points in 20 to 30 moves, while others have to be completed by removing spaces filled with jellies. It's all about matching the right candies to complete objectives and not just to score points.

Procedure: Match sets of 3 or more candies. The game is played by swiping candies, in any direction (so long as it is not blocked), to create sets of 3 or more matching candies. When matched, the candies will crush and shift the candies above them, allowing you to accomplish a series of different goals. If you create sets greater than 3, you will create candy combinations. These are powerful candy crushing machines which work in a variety of ways.

Rules: While matching candies, you will have to make sure Odus does not fall from the moon scale; else you will have to replay the level. To maintain the balance, avoid clearing too many candies of one color. The moon scale is balanced by two candy colors and you will need to maintain the balance and avoid making the scale tilt to one side.

Boundaries: Minimum candies to match are 3 and the maximum are 6.

Resources: You can earn a few of the boosters in the beginning of the game. You can also purchase most boosters within the game using actual money. These can help you win a level when you’re too frustrated or unable to continue. Be careful how you use them, however, as you never know when you’ll need one. Be strategic. There are boosters which add moves, the lollipop hammer (which crushes the desired candy on the board), shuffle candy (which will rearrange the board), among a number of other boosters. They should be explained as you earn them, though almost all you will have to buy.

Outcome: Not zero-sum. Once you’re done, stars will appear. It depends on how high your score is. There is a point requirement for the extra star that pops up just before you start a level. While you play, you'll notice a meter on the side of the window that fills up as you progress. Once you've hit the green, that last star is yours for the taking.

Conflict: There are some tiles, like bombs or chocolate, which should always be eliminated first if they exist on the board these will inhibit your progress or cause you to lose. Bombs end the game is not eliminated in the move limit specified on their face, while chocolate will multiply if not destroyed.

  17. Ricochet Kills 3
PLAYERS: Ricochet Kills can only be played by a single player.
OBJECTIVE: The only objective if this game is to bounce the bullets against the walls and kill all the man in black suits.
PROCEDURES: You might think it’s just a simple click mouse and fire, no it’s not. You need to focus and use your strategy. Sometimes shooting straight gets you nowhere. Try blowing up nearby explosives for the deadly effect you desire. And mind your ammo. You need more skills than happy trigger fingers to eliminate you many dark-suited enemies.
RULES: Your aim is to kill the black man in suits, so better shoot them, careful not to kill yourself. Avoid shooting steels or woods because it might kill you. Remember, your aim is to kill the BLACK MAN IN SUITS.
BOUNDARIES: You’ll be staying in one place only. You can’t walk, run or jump.
RESOURCES: You only have 10 bullets to kill the black man in suits. If you reached the middle level, they will attach bombs and cranes to help you in killing.
OUTCOME: It's a Zero-sum game, because you need to complete all the levels before you win the game.
CONFLICTS: The difficult part is you don’t have a lot of bullets and they don’t keep on reflecting from walls forever. So if you don’t aim it correctly, you will be wasting a lot time seeing it bouncing from left to right, right to left, top to bottom or bottom to top. Another conflict is losing all your bullets without killing all the man in black suits.

  20. MONSTER HUNTER GAMES
    Reviewed by: Antoniano, Cyril

PLAYERS: Maximum of four players in a party. It is unknown to me the number of players in an Online Lobby, also based on the servers' capacity.

As a team vs system game, players will face Monsters of diverse kinds. Players are to pick one of various unique weapons according to your strategy against the beasts. If there is one or two players available in a party, they can bring some Pets to assist them ingame. Can be played alone, if you dare solo the giants.

OBJECTIVES: Collect/harvest/find required items, survive through the map/ or slay the designated monstrosity.

PROCEDURES: Everything depends on the map, the quest you are assigned, the resource found within it, and the monsters present for each fight.

    As for quests:
COLLECTING: Is to search the map for something required to succeed the mission. After reaching the number of needed resource, the player is to put the items on a red box, confirming that you have completed the mission.
SURVIVING: Ofcourse, survival is the most essential thing in the game, but there are quests that is requiring you to just sit there in the beautiful 3d nature, relax, and live (This is a lie). Some maps require you to suppress a giant dragon/ monster with full force in order to survive the mission, when the required time is reached, mission accomplish for the hunters. Some players are lucky to not just survive, but even slay them. And some maps just require you to kill 10 boss monsters/ kill minimum of 3 + survive.
HUNTING: Well obviously. Note that monsters have weaknesses and strengths, all according to your equipment, weapon element and situation. You can destroy monster parts by hitting them, making some situations either more easy, or insanely scary. (ex: Cut of a dragon's tail, and you can't be hit by the tail now. Cut of a dragon's tail, and make it 5 times as faster and powerful because of anger. [this is called rage mode]) You can either slay the monster or capture it (using traps and tranquilizers) when weakened.

    1. RULES:
OBJECTS: Each player can pick one type of main weapon. Weapons (according to type of) have the ability to Slice (cut of parts), Pierce (against hard monster armor) and, Bash (crack monster shells and skulls.) Weapons and armour can be crafted with monster spoils and other materials. Armour is made up of 5 equipable parts (head, torso, arms, femur, and boots). 30 Items can be inside the hunter bag which will be available to use when hunting, other items are stored in your house box (which is only avilable when inside towns)
In terms of controls (psp): the player can run (R), dodge roll (X), draw weapon(Triangle), use an item in the hunter bag/ inventory (Square), and attack (Triangle and Circle), select item (L). Some weapons have shields and some special effects (To activate them, press R while weapon is in draw mode).
RESTRICTIONS: You cannot trap Legendary Monsters and non-boss monsters. You cannot block forever, you will loose stamina. (the same is with Running)
BOUNDARIES: Each area has a mini-map that shows the places you can go in that biome. Sure there are many secret places hidden, but nontheless, you're stuck in that area until you complete the quest.

RESOURCES: Weapon sharpness, inventory items (whetstones [for sharpening of weapons], potions, traps and food), stamina (the stamina bar will shorten if you dont eat), time, items found within quest maps (if you have a mission that takes alot of time, be mindful of the items left in your arsenal). You have 3 lives in each quest, if you get to strike the third, you return to town with only you weapon and armor left.

OUTCOME: When you beat every quest in the game (offline)
Not zero-sum: You can still continue playing after the final boss: collect more items, make more powerful equipment. And if you're in the new versions of Monster Hunter, greatluck, more monster would appear, with bigger spoils and stranger things to be found. The same goes when playing online. They just keep adding abomanations that will make you crap while playing.

CONFLICT: Boss monsters are pain in the arse, but what about Dual Boss monsters? But what about Dual Legendary Boss Monsters? But what about you inside an area full of little nonboss monsters angry monsters with no health, no potions, no stamina!? Preparation is always needed.

      DILEMMAS:
      What weapon should I use?
Should I confront the boss monster head on?
What part should I break first?
Where the heck is that mthfckn thing!? (Yes, finding the monster is a regular problem for most of us players)

Rules: There are many rules in the game. Each stage/level gives hint and different rules.
Resources: Crash has two types of attack, jumping and spin kicking. Use the jump attack to launch into
the air and onto an enemy head. The spin kick attack Is more powerful and can knock the
enemy right off the screen. You can earn extra bonus points by spin kicking one enemy so it
knocks a second enemy off the screen.
Outcome: There's no loser in the game. If you lose in one stage, you can repeat it whenever you want for you to finish the game.
    Conflict:
The TNT Crates is an explosive crates that appears in several Crash games. It is by far one of the most dangerous crates, even though destroying it is required to get all the crates in the level. Most methods of attacking it will make Crash Bandicoot end up dead but by jumping on it or giving it a headbutt underwater, it will count down from three to one before exploding giving a chance to escape.

The Game Is Available From Single Player.

Objectives: To Capture Some Recruitment And To Capture Some Castle.

    Procedure:

    1.2.3- To Change Weapon
Mouse- To Control The Movements Of Your Character
F- To Get Down To Your Horse
    Space Bar- To Jump

    Rules :
Right to rule is the amount of respect points you have. This is used when you are founding your own kingdom, and it only appears in Warband.

The higher your right to rule is, the more likely lords will be to see you as the real king and even join you. If you have a low right to rule, other kingdoms will take you as a renegade, other lords may not join your faction and other factions are more likely to declare war on you. It also means that the lords in different factions will not respect you as much when you talk to them. This can take the form of the lords stating that 'You are a lord with no master' and vice versa after you talk to them.

Remember that you, the player, are just a foreigner in Calradia, and getting right to rule is very difficult. Getting right to rule takes time. It is advised that before you start a nation of your own you prepare yourself enough so that the lords respect/know you.

  27. ZUMA Revenge
    Player: Single Player
    Objective:
    -produce bonuses and power ups
-eliminate all the balls rolling onscreen before they reach the skull
    Procedure:
-You have to destroy the chains by shooting balls out of a rotating stone frog, which is otherwise stationary. As you eliminate groups of three or more like-colored balls, you can cause the chain to contract and set off chain reactions, producing bonuses and power-ups.
    Rules:
The controls for Zuma are very simple. You just have to point your mouse cursor somewhere on the screen and left click, and the stone frog will fire the ball in its mouth towards the cursor. Right click your mouse to switch the ball in the frog’s mouth with the ball color shown in the gem on the back of the frog.

    Boundaries:

Temple. Each temple is divided into three stages, and each stage is divided into several levels.

    Resources:

-You get an extra life every 50,000 points.

-Exploded balls are scored at 10 points each.

-A combo is initiated when multiple explosions are triggered with one shot. The first explosion is scored normally. The second gives a bonus of 100 points, the third 200, the fourth 300, etc.

-A chain is created when at least five subsequent shots generate five subsequent explosions. At the 5th explosion a bonus of 100 points is awarded. The bonus for every subsequent explosion is calculated by taking the previous bonus and adding 10 points. So the bonus for the fifth explosion would be 100, the 6th would be 110; the 7th would be 120, and so on.

Outcome: Zero-Sum Game. If the ball reaches the skull, you will lose one of your lives and when all your lives are gone, its game over!
    Conflict:
    -Time Limit
    - Non-stop stream of balls rolling onscreen, faster and faster, until you ultimately perish.

  28. It Has To Be This Way (Platinum Mix) by Jimmy Gnecco
Boss Soundtrack from Metal Gear Rising Revengeance

I’m going to turn the game’s soundtrack into a sword duel game.

    Players: Two players.

Procedure: Controls will be mapped for a vertical slash, horizontal slash, block, parry and movement.

    Rules:

Objectives: The two players try to outmatch and subdue each other.
Restriction: Players cannot attack if they are low on stamina. Players can only move left or right and the only permitted vertical movement is through jumping.
Effects: Player lands a blow on opposing player, that player loses life. Zero life equals death. Blocking an attack pushes an enemy away. A successful parry allows the player to land a free hit while a failed parry opens the player for a free hit for the enemy.

Boundaries: Standard fighting game stage. Screen scrolls horizontally when players are far away from each other.

Resources: The players who are going to duel. Life and Stamina gauge. Distance as knowing the reach of your attack is very vital to the duel.

Outcome: Zero-Sum game, one player wins while the other loses.

Conflict: The opposing opponent will not easily let the player win as it a duel to the death.

The game’s idea is somehow based on the game Bushido Blade on the Playstation One. The reason why the game is a sword based duel game because the soundtrack’s lyrics and the fact that the music is used on the game as one on one boss fight.

The game is fun and at the same time frustrating. It is fun in a way that it is done by teamwork and your teammates are your close friends. The game is frustrating because you have to hit the can from the distance.
What will keep you playing is the competition. You have to beat the other team by earning the highest points.
Story: Like other Filipino traditional games, members take the following rules: one as the “taya”, someone who takes the rule of a-player-at-stake and holds the responsibility of the Lata (tin can), and; the two others as the players striking. The game is performed by having the players a “pamato” (which is one’s own slipper) used for striking the tin that is held beside the taya.
    Players: Group
Goal Objective: the “it”, is obliged to catch another player to take over his position of running after the tin that keeps from throwing away by the strikes of the players.
Procedure: The “it” is only privileged to do so only if the player is holding on his way a pamato and when the tin is on its upright position. Hence, running after another player is keeping an eye to the tin can’s position. As for the players, they have their whole time striking the tin can and running away from the taya keeping themselves safe with their pamato since making the tin fell down helps another player from recovering. Instance like having everyone had their turns over is one big climax of the game that leads them to panic since case is that taya has all his rights to capture whether the player have a hold of their pamato or not.
    Boundaries: The agreed-upon playground space.
Rules: Breaking rules to the players give way for the taya to have his overturn, like: stepping on or outside the boundary line when throwing; kicking the tin; striking the tin without having oneself reaching the line; or even touching it.
    Resource: Tin Can, Slippers
Conflict: The mechanics also give each side privileges. With the roadway or streets as the area being performed, the “it” take its place on one side held its tin centered on the ground while on the other end is bound by a line that limits the player when throwing.
Outcome: Zero-sum game. Whichever team has the highest points wins

This game is a player vs system game in which your opponent is the time limit. This can be played with android phones and apple. Your main objective in this game is to achieve a high score and combine all the number 1 and 2 on the screen. In order for you to combine those numbers, you'll have to tap the numbers then match it into the same number. When two number two's were merged, there will be a star and that star must also be merged with another star to earn a bonus. A bonus would make an advantage to you because it can freeze the time while you are playing. There is a time limit that sets the player in pressure and that's the challenge in this game.

There are resources such as power ups that can be upgraded once you earned money. You earn money every time you play the game. The time limit is 1min, you must match the same numbers before the time runs out and you must do it continuously to have a high combo that would give you a higher score than the usual score. Your mind must be alert while you're playing as well as your hands must be careful on what they tap because with only one wrong move, you'll lose your combo or your score won't move while the time is running out. if you want a higher score well you must really upgrade your power ups for you to achieve a high score.

Well, this game is a time killer game in which all you do is tap and tap and tap. The outcome of this game is you'll just have a record and you'll have to beat the best record you can have so that you could say that you won the game.

  35. Palette

Console: PC; It's released in 1998 but modern systems could still run, albeit the colors might look strange. Simple thing to do is just emulate Windows 98 then run it.

Players: Single player; For the introduction and for some parts, the player will control psychiatrist Sianos B. Sian. But for the actual game, they will control his patient B.D.

Objectives: Dr. Sianos must uncover a blind and amnesiac girl named B.D's memories. The player must travel through an intricate maze that is her mind.

    Procedures:
    For Keyboard:
Use the Arrow Keys (Down, Left, Right, Up) to move the character.
You can also use 2, 4, 6, and 8 on the Numpad.
When the Command Window is open, use Up and Down to choose an option.
Press Escape to open or close the Command Window.
On the Command Window, you can choose items
You can also save and load the game.
To confirm a choice on the Command Window, or talk or inspect something in-game, press the Enter or Space key.
The Escape Key can also be held down to skip through text boxes.

    Using Mouse
Hold down the Left Mouse button and move it to move the character in the direction you guide.
Left Click to talk, check, or confirm.
Right Click to open or close the Command Window, or cancel.

Rules: The player can only move in a certain number of steps. If they've reached the limit, B.D will get a headache and it will transport back to Dr. Sianos. They will interact with several key items that will slowly reveal some certain aspects of B.D's pasts, along with puzzles that will piece it together. The player can save at any point and at anytime, except in Siano's room.

Boundaries: A maze-like structure; this represents B.D's subconsciousness. Since it is a complicated and intricate place, players are suggested to make a map so that they won't lose their way, or waste a precious number of steps.

    Resources:

    Shred of Memories
    - necessary key items to unlock certain areas. As the name implies, this is shred of B.D's memories. Obtaining this also adds one point to your Gauge (number of steps). It is the most important item in the game.

    Rest Areas
    - When a player's gauge is low, these ovals appear to increase it by a certain amount.

Outcome: Non-zero sum; the game ends after the player has uncovered B.D's memories. It has only one ending, so the player does not have to repeat the game to get any sort of ending.

    Conflicts(Dilemmas):

    Gauge
-It indicates only a certain amount of steps may be taken within the maps.

    Glass Walls
-These blocks out certain areas, especially where Shred of Memories can be found. Breaking a glass wall costs one step. The harder it is for a memory to be recalled, the many glass walls are there to break.

    Unclear Areas
    - These represents a blurry part of B.D's memory. It is a white outline that cab become clear if interacted. In more challenging parts of the game, it is only uncovered when a certain shred of memory is acquired.
